Well, looks like we had another ready fire aim at the cost of jobs from what I hear. First the commision talks about a paper mill coming and passes a resolution against it. You can read about it here: http://www.discoverdade.com/themountain~valleyindependentoctober312009.htm
Then the Chairman takes to the local radio station in discussion about the smell. I heard some economic developers in Chattanooga were upset with this. After we found out what was really coming we decided to take a more friendlier approach to the situation. You can read it here: http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2009/nov/08/paper-plant-eyeing-site-dade-county/

from what I hear also the are going to Dalton or South GA. Unfortunately at the cost of Many jobs. Maybe the county will learn it's lesson on this one. In today's economy and with the even way more competitive enviroment of industry choosing selectively choosing it's sites. When other areas are offering way more incentives to entice in an industry Hopefully they will choose to check things out in the future. One bad word publically from a local government can blow a deal and they will choose to locate to a more industry friendlier site.

As many of us know that we are labeled as "Troublemakers" I find it funny when the Rooster comes home to ROOST! Going back over this topic, I found it funny the about face and how it was written.

Be sure to click on the link of the mountain-valley independent link and read what was written about the Hammer Mill Plant coming into Dade County and now focus on how much we want them here now. Even channel 9 wants to do a story on these jobs but we are waiting for the company to come and ask permission to move into this county...lol...lol..lol...

Per News Free Press..................Dade County Executive Ted Rumley said there have been no significant developments in talks with Clearwater Paper since the Dade County Commission first discussed the potential plant in November.

"It's totally in their court," he said, noting that he hoped to hear something after the first of the year.

Area officials await word on choice for location of paper mill
By Sarah McCurter
Correspondent
TRENTON, Ga. — A possible employment opportunity for Georgia and Tennessee residents is on hold while officials in Chattanooga and Dade County wait for answers.
During the Dade County Commission meeting last November, Chairman Ted Rumley spoke briefly of a toilet-paper manufacturing mill that was looking at a local site for a plant.
Clearwater Paper, with executive offices in Spokane, Wash., had high interest in a Kenco building on Wauhatchie Pike, Mr. Rumley said. The building straddles the Georgia/Tennessee line.
Local officials said then that they expected to know shortly after Jan. 1 whether Clearwater would lease the building. But six months later, Mr. Rumley said he has not heard from Clearwater.
“Last I heard, they had narrowed down to three sites,” he said.
Mr. Rumley said that as far as knows the Kenco building still is in the running.
Clearwater officials have declined to comment before the decision is made.
Lee Norris with the Chattanooga Public Works Department also said he doesn’t know what is going on with the building. Public Works was in on initial discussions.
“We don’t really have any information on it either,” he said.
Mr. Rumley said other companies also have expressed interest in the building, but he could not give more information on them.
“Whether it is Clearwater or someone else, we need someone there,” Mr. Rumley said. “We need the jobs.”

Clearwater Paper Selects Shelby, North Carolina, for Its New Tissue Machine and Converting Facility
Quote:
SPOKANE, Wash., Jun 10, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- At a ceremony today in North Carolina, Gov. Bev Perdue announced that Clearwater Paper Corporation (NYSE:CLW) has chosen Shelby as the location to build its newest tissue facility. The company had previously announced the project, which includes a Through-Air-Dried (TAD) paper machine and seven converting lines capable of producing ultra grades of private label tissue products.

"Clearwater Paper's decision to locate in North Carolina is certainly great news and we welcome them to our state," said Gov. Bev Perdue. "Companies know that our state's skilled workforce, nationally recognized education programs and top-rated business climate provide the perfect formula for businesses to succeed and grow."

"After nearly a year of analysis--looking at important aspects such as current customer base and growth opportunities, logistics and transportation infrastructure, available workforce skills and abilities, tax structure, incentives and quality of life, and subject to local and state incentives being granted, Clearwater Paper has chosen Shelby to be the home of our newest tissue facility," said Gordon Jones, chairman, president and CEO of Clearwater Paper. "From the Governor to the Department of Commerce to Cleveland County's economic development team, we found North Carolina to be not only very responsive to our company's business needs, but endowed with a dedicated, positive group of people who are a pleasure to work with."

Clearwater Paper intends to move forward as soon as possible with construction of the facility, which will include a 200-inch TAD tissue machine together with a total of seven converting lines, and has estimated the project will cost $260 to $280 million. Over the next 12 years, state and local incentives associated with the project are expected to be worth nearly $50 million in the aggregate.

"The Shelby facility will increase our ultra and premium offerings to our existing Southern and East Coast customers," said Bob DeVleming, vice president, consumer products division. "We believe it will also create new opportunities to expand our private label consumer tissue business to other retail grocery chains in the region, and we are very pleased with the initial work by North Carolina officials. We are ready to get started."

The company intends to break ground during the third quarter of this year. Build-out and start-up for the converting lines will come in phases, with the first two lines expected to begin production during the second half of 2011. The paper machine is expected to take two years to build from completion of engineering, and the company anticipates beginning production on the machine in the second half of 2012. At full production capacity the facility will produce approximately 10 million cases or 70,000 tons of bathroom tissue and household towels annually.

ABOUT CLEARWATER PAPER

Clearwater Paper manufactures quality consumer tissue, bleached paperboard and wood products at six facilities across the country. The company is a premier supplier of private label tissue to major retail grocery chains, and also produces bleached paperboard used by quality-conscious printers and packaging converters. Clearwater Paper's 2,500 employees build shareholder value by developing strong customer partnerships through quality and service.

How funny, seen where the Media woke up and made a story about this issue. Since it was said in the article (which we all here know wasn't the real reason)(Just ask anyone who worked the Chatt. side) why couldn't we have sold them on the 100 acres in our new Industril Park? Oh wait, we haven't bought that so we didn't have anything else to offer. Well we have got a new Civic Center being built to adopt dogs from now that the same ROCK is about to be removed...lol..lol...
