Some of you may not know this but both of my parents worked growing up. The county were I grew up had a afternoon program at the local park. In the summer it was all day long. Guess what it didn't cost a thing. They had swim lessons that cost $25 a week during the summer. So I ask you this. How is it that the ymca can come in and use the city facility paid for with tax dollar money and charge $115 a week. What are they going to do with all of the money? You could get a pool pass for the whole summer and drop your kid off for cheaper. I imagine after the new convention center is built they will use it also. Better yet maybe we parents could pay for johnny to go there and be active by cleaning out the cages at the new animal control facility. What about when people start dropping off rabid dogs at the park after the control facility is open? If 10 kids a week showed up for this camp who gets the money? You can't tell me they pay the conselor that much. http://dadesentinel.com/content.aspx?mo ... berID=1338

I like the comment of the park......He said he was pleased with the playground, pool and shade trees Jenkins provides. “This is actually what I think of as one of our better sites,” he said. “It’s got everything we need.”
That's what we used to think as far as a festival but I guess we were wrong...lol...lol... Even built a stage there..... Most if not all entertainment used to comment on how wonderful that park was to have the event... But I guess this year's festival outgrew the park...

I just found out about this last night. My wife was lamenting the fact that she feels trapped at the house with the kids this summer. She said they have no place to go and play. I told her to hit the play ground and let them run wild and she informed me that it would cost her 115 dollars to let them play at the PUBLIC FACILITIES!

The report says swim lessons will be before the pool is open to the public. Does this mean they are shortening the hours available to the public? Are they paying the same rental rate any one else does? Can I get the pool for an hour to give water ballet lessons? http://timesfreepress.com/news/2010/jun ... n-trenton/

YMCA launches summer programs in TrentonBy Sarah McCurter
Correspondent
TRENTON, Ga. -- Northwest Georgia YMCA Day Camp leaders say that, despite solid enrollment, they're hoping more people register.
"We had a good amount of people show up," Northwest Georgia Y director John Donahoo said of the camp, which began Tuesday at Trenton City Park. "They were excited to find out more about the program."
He said the camp is for children age 5 to 12 and runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The cost is $95 for YMCA member children and $115 for nonmembers. Parents also can choose a two-day camp for $60.
The camp is a safe place for kids to have fun while their parents are at work, Mr. Donahoo said. They spend the days playing games, performing skits and swimming, and they also have fitness periods throughout the day to help improve or maintain their health, he said.
Bill Rush, YMCA representative, said several outdoor activities, including canoeing and hiking, may be held during the camp.
In addition to Day Camp, the Y is bringing swim lessons to Trenton.
Mr. Donahoo said the lessons will begin next week at the Trenton City Pool in the mornings before it opens to the public.
Prices for swim lessons are $70 for a nonmember for eight sessions, $40 for eight sessions for a member and $30 for kids already enrolled in Day Camp.
Both programs are expected to run all summer, Mr. Donahoo said.
For more information or to register for Day Camp or swim lessons, call Mr. Donahoo at 706-935-2226.
