I will be leaving in a little while headed for Virgina for Racing this weekend. But I still wonder how "Big Of Boy Are YA" when it comes to this issue. Yea, tha cat's out of the bag and everone knows what's going on with this issue of a County Funded Raise. AGAIN, Let ME STRESS this Fact! It is NOTHING PERSONAL against the person who "Might" receive a raise. But don't tell everone that NO RAISES will be funded and then hand one out. So again with the story will be told if the commission goes into excutive session and what they come back out and say the reason for it was. Remember a Raise has to be told to the public.

You can't have it two ways there Commission. I know how ya'll want to keep getting along (the Good Ole Boys) but the fact remains that you can't Bash one Chairman for doing the same thing as the next one that comes along and NOT SAY A WORD! I think we have had enough "Historical Events" here latley..............

My Bad, the answer isn't "IF" but it has already been done. Wonder why the media missed it? HHHUUMMM could it have been on the Dumb and Dumber show where Mr Rumley was telling you how he was doing such a GREAT JOB? Or maybe when he appears on "Tha Fluffer" and Mr. Stone forgets to ask him the tough questions. Anyhow it was done (as told by one Commissioner) that they had no knowledge of this raise till it had already been given. The Blame lies strickly on the Shoulders of Ole Teddy Boy on this one. Why tell everone that you have cut out raises in your Dept. and then turn around and give someone a raise? What about telling the other Depts. to Cut while adding to yours? Kinda seems like a Double Standard to me......

I really don't like being lied to or stepped around, cause stepping around makes it easier for stepping in sumthin.....

I am betting there will now be other employees wanting raises because one got one. Get ready for the ride boys cause here we go. Ye haw. Hint to Managers in this economy there is no need to worry about someone leaving. If they do you could fill it for half the money with someone with a masters probably.

The main problem is... Do as I SAY not as I DO. It happens alot in our Churches also, but that's the only thing we have in Dade County that seems to have money to blow....

Well, Well, Well, Mr. Brandon! I owe you a BIG TIME APOLOGY! Seem this COMMISSION has the same thought of County Goverment that you did. I NEVER called it POWER! Seems this Commission wants to call it that also. They have given back all the POWER they had taken away from you. After NO ACTION was taken on Thursday nite, I now see that it IS about POWER in this position. The Commission in all their "Getting Along" have went against everthing that is right in order to keep the peace and not make Ted Mad. I really don't have a problem with the employee raise other than the fact is't like the "Spoiled Child". You can't stand before the people you serve and say you are doing everthing to cut and then turn around and ask other Dept's to do the same and then go give ONE EMPLOYEE a RAISE! I have more respect for a man who will stand in my face than a sneaky little Executive who will slip around and blame others and give a raise to one employee and act like they really care for Dade County.

Now for these other Commissioner who have NO POWER and now NO BALLS, I have nothing to say but you get what you deserve, which will be nothing. This meeting made up my mind that I have no reason to vote for any Commissioner who can't stand before the people and Vote and Speak their minds for the people they serve. And people wonder why the voting turnout is so LOW! Look at the choices and the mistakes that have been made by the voters being mislead by those who Seek the POWER!

@Rex, I accept your apology. However, let me go on the record as saying that the CE should have the discretion to make salary adjustments, within the budget, and within the county policy for the people who are supposed to be reporting to the CE. That's the way I operated for the first two years. You cannot effectively manage the county or any other complex organization by a stinking committee which is what happened my last two years. the District Commissioners should stick to determining POLICY ONLY and leave the day to day running of the county to the County Executive. That's why it's important to pick the right one. When an employee has two bosses an organization can't function. Now whether or not this was within budget and according to county policy I have no idea. What was the % increase and who got it?

Again let me state this is Nothing personal to the person who already got the raise. But it has more to do with the Person (County Executive) who gave the raise (who has said many times about cutting back) to an employee in his office. Never once said anything to the other commissioners and the taxpayers who "FUND" the raise. I agree that the CE job is to run the day to day but when you give a raise as large as the one given (About 19%) to any employee, the people should hear about it and not try to cover it up... Where I really have the problem is that this commisson has went to all the other Depts. and said they will be NO RAISES and NO INCREASES in Budget but then the CE gives one employee a raise. Now I understand that this employee completed an on-line degree and that was the reason for the raise. But you will hear this week about how much this employee makes over other county employees that have more responsibilities than this one. Again nothing personal on my part just not good for moral for the County. Oh and there is ALOT of talk of this raise in the inner circle. This will also fit into the "Job Title" issue of it costing more to operate the goverment.

It will be tough for anyone on the Road Crew to get an on-line degree that will be backed up by a mandated raise because of the Official "Title" of Ditchdigger and then we can appoint an assistant "Ditchdigger" who will be given a mandated raise also.

Nineteen Percent??? That seems high. I seem to recall county policy is that an associates degree gets you 2.5% and a Bachelor's another 2.5%. But 19%? That does seem a bit excessive given current financial conditions. The only justification would be if the employee was significantly below the midpoint for that position when compared with other counties and even then 19% would be too big a jump at one time IMO.
