Hey Wreck, I think I am WRONG! Just got off the phone with someone who says I am off on my numbers. It's more like 9% than 19%. Still way to high for this economy...IMO

Right now most companys aren't even giving raises and I know that this much of a raise is unheard of. But like I said the main problem is that you can't just jump up and down on cutting the budget and then go and give one raise this year. I want ALL the county emplyees to have raises but I want some revenue to make up for it, other than the taxpayer. We are wanting to CUT the money we have to pay the Jury Members from 30.00 a day to 25.00 a day but yet hand out that large of a raise?

If you think things are tight now wait till next year. By then all the foreclosures, which not take up nearly as much space in the paper as the news, will be offered for short sale or whatever the lenders can get. Property values will plummet and the digest will take a huge dive. That means to get the same amount of money the county will have to raise the millage rate and that is not going to be popular. Also, fuel prices, I predict, will take off again as they did 3 years ago blowing holes in the county budet. The commission is going to have to make the decision whether to cut or eliminate nonessential services or raise taxes. Which one would you choose? I know which way I'd go.

Well Looks like the Sentinel has made a pretty good aurguement for the fact that it's NOT A RAISE... LoL...lol..lol... Just wonder how many people read the article and think... Oh Heck Yea... Ted is RIGHT? Not buying it FOLKS! I also would remind Lamar about the WORD POWER! Seems he throws that around like it's something. Well Mr. Lowery, the People have the POWER! It will just take enough to get it done. It will take the folks of Dade County to pay enough attention to see what we have been seeing and saying for years..... What a Double-Standard this county really is...

Times are hard. This Commission furloughed employees countywide last fall, cut the compensation of the Water Authority’s board of directors this spring, and at its latest meeting recommended a pay slash for jury duty. Go to any budget hearing and you will hear the agonized screams of pinched pennies and stretched dollars. In such an environment, could it possibly be true any county employee had been given a large raise?

Times are harder for some than others. This is a prime example of why I didn't make a good elected official. I would never have had the brass to do something like this when everyone else got no raise or was forced to take furlough days.

The MAIN problem I have is that while it is TRUE that if Ramblin had done such a thing while he was in office, there would have been a full investigation by the "Other Commissioners". Mr. Lowerly has made it CLEAR that all the POWER was givin back to this position (Ted) for him to do as he sees fit. He is choosing to use that Power the same as Mr. Brandon had seen fit. While I still say that even this position should have some accoutability by the other Commissioners, they have choosen to go back on their stance of County Executive. It shows that while they do "Get Along" with each other much better now that a GOB is in that position, I feel the same distrust in the system as I felt back when Mr. Brandon held it.
As I have said many times that when 10% of the population "CONTROL" the other 90% of taxpayers we will continue to see such things as we have pointed out on this Blog Site.

This quote was taken from the News Free Press this week... Monday, Aug. 16, 2010 Tough times squeeze budgets
Dade County’s millage rate will remain flat at 6.478 in unincorporated areas and 8.198 in the cities. Rumley said the county also will look for ways to cut expenses and said employee furloughs are “a very good possibility” as early as next month.

Looks as if this is on Next Meetings agenda... How funny that this site has been on this topic since day one and the "Local Media" is just now catching up?
I say we give more raises to select employees and have more employee furloughs..... HHUUUHHH?
Wonder what Business Plan has this in the manual?....lol..lol..lol...
I say that we keep out Revenue and keep the milliage rate the same and keep adding more furlough days till the goverment can't even operate and then we can close it down....
