It was GREAT to see the City make the step in the right direction last night. As I watched the replay I have to grin a little at the fact that it passed. While I still say that the "Time" has came and gone it was the right decision. Sounded like at times it was a little out of hand with some folks. I am however suprised that they did actually vote, but did vote the way I thought they would. While some might want to think this as a "Big Deal" it's really not at all that big an issue. But as usual the same folks who think their opinion is the most important just had to speak... One was even running late and tried to tell everone just how important he thought he really was. I thought that several times that a fight might break out but cooler heads took over.

The Commission may not have the final say, however, as Trenton resident and Pastor of Piney Grove Baptist Church John Smith informed the Commission, per the Code of Georgia, he intends to circulate a petition throughout the City that, if signed by 25% of the City's registered voters, would require the City to hold a special election giving the voters the opportunity to decide whether the ordinance should stay or be overturned. Smith said that he plans to start circulating the petition throughout local churches first, but added, "I don't want it to come across as an organization, but as the Christians who car about our community."

Same ole spin as usual....

Good thing we have our local Pastors looking after us...lol..lol... One carries the petition and the other writes the book...lol.lol...lol...lol...

But keep in mind it's not a MORAL ISSUE!

The city of Trenton will soon have restaurants selling beer and wine.

The council voted 3-2 at a meeting Monday night in favor of adopting Georgia's ordinances regarding beer and wine. Mayor Barton Harris made the tie-breaking vote.

Harris says 70 percent of a restaurant's business must still come from food sales.

This is different from "liquor by the drink" votes coming up in seven different communities Tuesday. Trenton still does not allow liquor sales at restaurants.

I understand how tough it must be on the media mogal with now having to be part of the sideline wrapup show for the Wolverines but you would think a call to our Local "Good Ole Boys" on the Beer Board would be able to answer the question even if you didn't have time to actually do the re-search......

We're learning more about the new malt beverage ordinance that was passed earlier this week by the Trenton City Council. The original ordinance came from the city of Lafayette, which restricts the retail sale within one hundred yards of any church, school, housing authority property or city of Lafayette recreation property. The ordinance the City of Trenton voted on, left out any restriction from churches as well as housing authority property, and gave special consideration for the new Trenton City civic center.

I mean just ask ole "Smokie" or "Cowboy" if they can issue a Beer License for a business close to a Church? I mean after all that is what they get paid for knowing. So little is put into actually finding out the story when you want to slant it in the first place.... HHHMMMM

I am sure it was just a small oversite on the part of the city...after all 100 yards of a church would exclude all resturants in the city lol.

I guess that you will be able now to pick up a "Beer and a Dog" most any time now.....
