I searched Hardina through my voter lookup program and can't find that she has voted in Dade. A look on the Dade County Tax Assessors turns up nothing.
Trenton Commissioner Arrested on Sexual Battery Charges December 02, 2011 5:47 PM Jerry Askin 13-year Trenton City Commissioner Charles Cannon posed for his mug shot, taken shortly after the GBI arrested him last night.
We got our hands on the arrest warrant this morning that says Cannon touched the breast of a woman without her consent back in August of this year.
Police sent him to jail when it happened, but he was released hours later. Last night, the GBI served a warrant to have him arrested again.
Trenton residents reacted to the news today.
"He's a part of this community, and he's a part of this county. He's supposed to be making sure everything runs right - and to have an accusation like that, it's upsetting," says Trenton Resident Lori Hardina.
We stopped by the City Hall to hear the mayor's take and to find out if Cannon was still on the job.
The mayor declined an on camera interview, but gave us this written statement saying, "It's always embarrassing when an elected official is accused of acting improperly. Since my term is up in January, I will not be taking any action against Mr. Cannon - that decision will be left up to the incoming mayor."
Dade county executive Ted Rumley says he was shocked to hear the news, but says Cannon is innocent until proven guilty.
"It surprises me. You've got an elected official that people put their confidence in, but it's up to the court to decide," says Rumley.
But residents like Lori Hardina say in the meantime, Cannon should step aside.
"Until he's proven innocent or guilty and the investigation is over. He should not be on the seat," says Hardina.
Since last night, Cannon has been released from the Dade County Jail. This case is still under investigation.
Atta boy, Barton ! No reason to get your hands dirty ! After all, THEY didn't give you the majority vote...no reason to work for THEM now...

Just another case of Dade County Good Ole Boys playing "CYA" (cover your donkey, if it's in a book written to be read in Dade County).. This is why I love this County so much. It's when the goodins have to either cover for their own or turn on their own... Now who in their right mind thinks that a Commissioner should keep their seat that has charges against them, when it's wrong for everthing else to come into this county. Funny how morals are top and center till it comes to one of ours and we turn a blind eye. Again! Innocent until proven guilty is a great line to use, but the fact is that charges by the GBI are very serious. They go on EVIDENCE and let that do the talking. (I know because what I thought was enough, was not in the case I seen first hand)... There was a reason it took the three months to make an arrest here folks and it's called getting enough evidence to charge him. Mr. Cannon wants and will have his day in court but I an not stupid enough to believe that the GBI just "Trumped Up" their charges. I also have "heard" the other side that Mr. Cannon wants to tell.. But in that case he will have to have evidence that his story is true... In either story, a Trenton City Commissioner should NEVER have placed themself in the situation. So you see Mr. Harris and Mr. Rumley, it's not that hard to tell the truth when you aren't playing the political games and trying to look good before the folks that your serve. Just tell it like it is, Stand on your own to feet and say what is really right and what is wrong. It's really pretty simple when you look at it....lol...lol..lol...

Evidence ? We don't need no stinkin' evidence ! If we think we know 'em, ain't that good enough to decide if they've been falsely accused ? Evidence is useful only when fairly considered .
I just hope the commissioner can find it in his heart of hearts to forgive his victims ! Maybe he can actually one up the county's most prolific writer and get a movie deal on his story of "The Power of Forgiveness".

I guess Mr. Cannon would have been arrested by the Sheriff if he had placed his mouth on the udder, because that would have been "Animal Molestation"!!!!!

UPDATE: Trenton Commissioner Chuck Cannon has now missed the last meeting of the year and the first meeting of the next. I just have to wonder what his attendance record has been since being elected his whole time in office. I bet it might suprise alot of people. But as far as anyone asking the question? Only here!

At least on Media outlet did notice and even asked a QUESTION on the fact of a Commissioner not being at the meetings. It's really sad to say that by law, you cannot do anything once a Commissioner is elected to remove them and they can continue to draw funds from taxpayers. And when it comes to todays morals that we hold so dear, like gambling and drinking a glass of wine that we still can't find it in our heart to do what's right and ask someone to step down. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Thanks goes out to the Sentinel for at least reporting this part of the meeting. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Well, three of them, anyway. Parks and Recreation Commissioner Chuck Cannon was AWOL at Monday night’s meeting, as he was at last months, following his arrest Dec. 1 for sexual battery by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The charges came after a GBI investigation of an August incident that had landed Cannon in Dade County’s lockup overnight. Cannon made no move to resign his city post after that incident, and he has made none to do so now that charges have been filed.
The Cannon situation is one ongoing Trenton drama the new mayor says he’s checked into. He said after the meeting that what the city can do about it is strictly limited by state law.
Nonetheless, said Emanuel, he’s still examining the situation. “He [Cannon] has a position that does carry with it significant responsibilities that directly impact the quality of life of people that live in Trenton,” said the new mayor. “So I would hope and I would think that at some point in time he would accept those responsibilities and start attending the meetings and start carrying out the responsibilities for which he was elected.”
