Great job Dade County. Lets just keep those tourist out of here. You wonder why you can't get an industry, festival, Apple Bee's? Just keep passing laws or not to keep those pesky visitors out. I mean the ones that spend money and leave. Don't forget to keep your business closed on the weeknights or weekends when most of the Dade population and 90% of the tourist can shop. Even if you change your mind the damage is done.
Quote:
Bikers lose again via grievances I was amused to see the Dade County commissioners have declared the 3 State 3 Mountain Century a no-go next year, citing safety issues — not for the cyclists themselves, but for the impatient drivers who may pass them on yellow lines going up Burkhalter Gap (where bikers are going 4 mph at best). All this on aΩ Saturday morning in May, over the past 22 years. It appears the squeaky wheel gets the grease again, as the trail wags the dog in this so-called grievance against bikers.
It seems to me that Dade County would be better served if it offered driver education for its adults, stressing the hard-to-understand concepts of patience, when to pass on a mountain road, and sharing the road with bicyclists. Use of turn signals would be optional.

As you know this is one of my problems with Dade County. I had never even HEARD of 3 State 3 Mountain till I joined the Chamber back a few years ago, and between a fellow member and them asking for help, I joined in to help them enjoy the time they had in Dade County. I do find it funny as I have said many times that one Commissioner used to support the Bikes (as a fellow Biker) UNTIL they were elected this last term. Folks this ride is ONE DAY (about 6 Hours) and you have 364 more days to find something else to FUSS about. Get over it!

It is like the Hwy 11 yard sale every year. If I am going to Trenton from Rising Fawn, I take I59 so that I don't have to deal with the mess. If the bike race were held and I still lived on the North end of the county and needed to go up Lookout Mountain, I would choose another route besides Burkhalter Gap. It ain't that hard unless you are an elected ohffishul.

This county continues to amaze me with its "backwardness". The people that run this county seem to be ignorant hillbillies with no vision for the future. Let's keep the junk sale out of the county next year because it takes me an hour to get to Trenton via US 11, wait a minute, I don't have the right ear to bend so I guess it will stay. Let's not tax the tourist just the citizens.

COMMISSIONERS ASKED TO CONTINUE TO SHARE THE ROAD WITH BIKERS 7-2-10
The Dade County Commission met for their regular monthly meeting yesterday and heard from several people concerning the issue of not allowing bikers to cycle up Burkhalter Gap during the annual 3 State 3 Mountain Challenge that runs through the county. Dade County resident and cyclist Mike Pollock stated that Burkhalter Gap is one of the biggest challenges of the route as it has the “Crown Jewel,” a steep incline near the end of the road. He encouraged Commissioners to consider continuing to share the road. County Executive Ted Rumley said he understood where Pollock was coming from, but from the County’s standpoint, it is a safety issue. Dade County resident Charlie Browning said that he lives in the area of Burkhalter Gap and that the cyclers have never bothered him at all. He suggested that the road be shut down for the 5 hours for the event and drivers could take an alternate route. More on the meeting will be published in the next edition of the Mountain~Valley Independent on Tuesday afternoon.
While not much was done at the meeting, so I have been told. This was the highpoint of the meeting. This is turning into the "Hangliding Debate" we had years ago. When will we learn... Stupid is as Stupid does.... But I'm sure Mr. Rumley will never get that point.
When will we ask that the two yardsells not Go through Dade County because of the "Saftey Issues"? Heck let's make it that nobody go through Dade County because of "Saftey Issues"!

Maybe we should have posted this under zoning has come to Dade County. I was thinking the same thing about the hand gliding. Heck while this oppressive regime is at it they might as well stop the Drive-in Movie theater. I can see the quote about the theater...."Pretty much all they do is pass through the county" These businesses need to wake up . Funny how years ago Marion County decided to restrict the route on Suck Creek for cars to residents only. Can you belive it they actually decided to work with the event? I was at the trek bike shop in Chattanooga Thurs. They have shirts that say "Share the road Chattanooga" Maybe we need some down in Dade. Funny how last week there was a article about Dade and the Southeast Development district and how leaders are seeing that it needs to be a regional approach without State Borders. Well just like everything else we aint fer it. Here is a new article to get your blood boiling:

This issue is gonna wind up really making Dade County look like "Hickville"....
I don't have the quote from Mr. Ted Rumley but it goes something like this... " The Bikes "Just" ride through Dade County... Does that mean we need to STOP everone who ain't from around here who "Just Rides Through"?
I've been telling ya'll for years but this issue just goes to show you what kind of thinking we have leading this County.... And we wonder why it is so backwards....

Come to think of it wonder if we could get some of that "Free" stimulus money to build a tall fence around Dade County. If we can do that we can put up guard shacks at all enterances to the county and keep unwant things out...you know like paper mills,LBD, Strip Clubs, state officials and most of all those hated bike riders.
