It kind of makes me mad when you use my tanto for other things than what it is designed for. Don't cut hay with it, don't castrate pigs with it, don't pry with it, don't stir bisquits with it.

Do you mean tano as in 'short sword'? That would truly be a sin.

Nah...a tanto is a fighting knife. You're referring to a Kodachi which is the Japanese short sword equivalent.

Actually, Tantō translates to "short sword" it was most often a single edged sword but sometimes double edged. Most popular during the Ashikaga shogunate, the Tantō is a strait sword made in the hira-zukuri forge style instead of the shinogi-zukuri style that produces the curved blades of Katana, Kodachi, Wakizashi, and a few others. Tantō is was generally used for stabbing and was only about 12 inches long (some were shorter) while the Kadachi is a 'true' short sword measuring about 28 inches. Women of Samurai class carried small ones called (kaiken) in their Obi, and were associated as wedding gifts -- and still are. I have one that was given to me as a gift when I left Japan, I lived there for two 2 years.
