Here are a couple of Senate Press Releases sent out this week on our very own Senator. Here is a note from the Press office:
Quote:
Press Releases - By request, press releases will be drafted by a member of the Senate Press Staff (SPO). The SPO will draft press releases when a Senate Bill is introduced, when it passes the Senate, and when the Governor signs the piece of legislation only. The SPO also will draft press releases for Senators when they are sworn into office, when they have won awards or received special recognition or when they are appointed to a committee or other noteworthy appointments. Press releases for reasons other than those stated above will be at the discretion of the Senate Press Office Director.
Columns - The Senate Press Office (SPO) will send out weekly columns for sitting Senators during the legislative session and in the interim at the request of any Senator.

Jeff Mullis Named One of 100 Most Influential Georgians by Georgia Trend MagazineATLANTA (Jan. 27, 2011) – In its January 2011 issue, Georgia Trend Magazine released the 13th edition of the “100 Most Influential Georgians,” honoring the states most powerful and influential citizens, drawn from business, industry, government, politics, education, science and the arts.
Georgia Trend identified State Sen. Jeff Mullis (R-Chickamauga) for his leadership in several crucial issues facing Georgia. The magazine noted “Mullis was writing legislation similar to Arizona’s tough new immigration laws before Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle recruited him to be part of a committee what will make immigration a main focus of this coming session. As chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, Mullis also secured a $14.2 million federal study grant for a proposed high-speed rail system connecting Atlanta and Chattanooga.”
“I am very humbled to be listed with such this fantastic group of leaders in Georgia, and sincerely thank Georgia Trend for this great honor,” said Mullis. I look forward to continuing the work this session to solve the transportation and immigration issues facing this great state while creating jobs and economic growth in this difficult economic environment.”
Mullis resides in Chickamauga, Georgia with his wife Teresa and two children. This is the third time he has been honored with this award.

Mullis: Busy First Days of Session despite Ice StormATLANTA (January 26, 2011) – With the first week of the 2011 General Assembly completely turned upside down due to the ice storm that paralyzed much of north Georgia, State Sen. Jeff Mullis (R-Chickamauga) still had plenty of duties to fulfill. Mullis, who begins his sixth term in office, officially started work as one of Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle’s appointees to the Senate Committee on Assignments which governs the Senate’s day-to-day operations. “Jeff is not only an effective and influential Senator; he is also a colleague that I am proud to call a friend,” said Cagle. “As a leading voice on transportation, economic development, and many other issues, he has earned the respect of his fellow Senators and serves as a powerful advocate for his constituents. I look forward to working with Senator Mullis to balance the state budget without raising taxes, create an economic climate that encourages job growth, and preserve the HOPE scholarship.”
Mullis was also one of the few legislators to serve on Governor Nathan Deal’s Escort committee for his first State of the State Address as governor. Being selected to the escort committee has been a longstanding honor Mullis was grateful to be part of.
“Governor Deal is exactly the leader we need at this critical juncture on Georgia history,” said Mullis. “His commitment to conservative principles and creating the right environment for jobs and economic growth will surely make for an effective partnership with the Senate in the years ahead. I was extremely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of his first State of the State Address and look forward to working with our new governor and moving Georgia forward.”
Mullis is currently the chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee and chairman of the Transportation Subcommittee of Senate Appropriations, Mullis will also serve as Secretary of the powerful Senate Rules Committee and sit on the Appropriations, Banking and Economic Development committees for the 2011-2012 Term.
Mullis resides with his wife Teresa and two children in Chickamauga, where he works as an economic developer. He proudly represents the 53rd Senate District, which includes Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade and Walker counties.
