I just noticed today that the Dade County Sentinel will start charging for it's web content to read the paper. While all of the details are still unclear, there appears to be two tier subscriptions. One is just for paper delivery and the other is for more money that gives you web access. I posted the following comment on discoverdade.com 's facebook page.

And the Sentinel is going to start charging for online content. I bet I know who wins this online battle. http://gigaom.com/2011/06/06/why-newspa ... -bad-idea/ I know we are very critical of you all sometimes but keep up the good work.

It is known in the paper world that paid subscriptions do not pay to the bills but advertisers do. We are critical of both papers for not asking the hard questions and praise them when they do. Even the times free press has an online only subscription rate but still post most of it's content online for free. So does the Atlanta Times. Need we go on. We believe this subscription service will fail unless it still allows access to the main stories for free to the web surfing public. We will also be upgrading our web page in the near future. It will be easier to post links, photo's and integrate better with other social media like facebook, twitter and more. We will also try to keep all of the content that is currently here and preserve user's logins to ensure a seamless transition. This may take a couple of months until the web debut but, we feel you will all like it. We have never held ourselves out as a news service nor will we ever will. We pride ourselves in just posting the facts and letting you decide and then discuss. This change in the web site is not in reaction to the Sentinel's change but gives us more motivation to do so. This wbesite will continue as it is until testing is done and then the transition will be made. I have gone a million ways in this post but this is what we do. Also, the new site will not have any advertising except local ones to help pay for the hosting.

It is also known that in Dade County you don't follow the business plan of anyone else... You FORCE those who will pay to do so. It's been this way for years in this County. That's why everthing is Dead in this place. When you are in the "Good Ole Boy" system of business you just make YOUR OWN RULES up as you go. Ever try to pay a bill in this town between 12 noon and 1:30? You force people to wait till they get done with their lunch before you pay your bills...

The "Good Ole Boys" also hate the fact that a Blog site exist where folks can say their piece without having it looked at before posting it. I can remember when both news outlets had blog sites on their page but because a "Certain Few" (US) didn't always agree with the way they wanted... The took "Their Ball" and went home..... Don't need to hear anyone eles's opinion other than if you agree with theirs.

Since one has went to a comment page on their website, I have sent in a few that has never been posted. No cussing or anything other than my opinion was stated but the owner felt the need to not post my comment. So that is why we now have this site to be able to comment the way we want to... You may (and I'm sure you do) at times disagree...... But at least we have a place to be able to comment and that's more than we have with the local media at times......
