Well looks like all the economic prosperity the Federal Government starts with all their stimulus money is hitting Dalton Board of Education in the form of reducing teachers and staff. Looks like all those dollars spent was done in a losing cause. I wonder how long it will take the local board to understand that they may have to do the same things.
We have reduced Teaching students to “Canned Education” in that they are now opening up the can called labeled “Standardized Test” and feeding the little lambs from it. I applaud Dalton for recognizing that with this approach to Education you can feed more students from the can with fewer Feeders (I don’t think we can call the feeders Teachers any more in that they don’t teach) and Staff.
I am sure the Sports program will remain intact in that the Government has not figured out a way yet to make every athlete the same so that all games would end in a 0-0 tie so that no one would be a loser. If they could do that we would just declare each team a winner and pat ourselves on the back and crow about how good we were.
So in the next few months when the State figures out how many days it wants to Babysit kids we my face a layoff of staff and Can Openers (Teachers) so they can Balance their Budget.
However don’t look for a millage decrease to reflect the loss of staff and Feeders because that want happen they will just tell us it will go up to keep the kids in school.
My Comment It’s time for the State to quit babysitting 3 and 4 year and give them to their parents to raise and take them out of the property owners pocket. Like I have said many times “IF you can’t Care for them and educate them …DON’T HAVE THEM.

But OT, it's for the children. How can you be so selfish as to complain about the cost?

More and more schools are finding out, just what is having to be cut this year. Seems no one wants to be known as the tax increaser this year. They are finding themselves in an unsual spot this budget year.

State Schools Plagued By Low Grad Rates
By Noel Brown
Updated: 22 hours ago

AUGUSTA, Ga. — According to the state, about 40 percent of students who enroll at public colleges and universities actually earn degrees.

About 40 percent of students at Georgia’s state universities aren’t graduating and the Board of Regents is looking at ways of imroving that number. (Image courtesy USG)Officials with the Board of Regents say that’s because many freshmen who qualify for the Hope Scholarship program can’t maintain the B average needed to keep it.

Regents spokesperson John Milsaps says many schools have started programs to help freshmen deal with the transition from high school into college.

"The real key year for all students in college will be that freshmen year," said Milsaps. "It’s a real adjustment from going to a high school where everybody told you what to do to college where everything is more up to the individual student."

Georgia’s graduation rate is in line with the national average.

I hear there is a big exodus of teachers from our school system as well. Wonder what that is all about?

Wonder what the School board is having all these executive sessions about?????? I know alot of my former teachers are retiring this year and some will have to be replaced while others won't be replaced to cut from the budget.

Murray County is cutting the JROTC program using the stand it was the least requested program (about 125 Students) and it would save the system over 150,000 dollars. Using that argument to save.. sould not the Basketball program Golf, baseball, and all other minor sports been cut before they got to the JROTC program ?
Because I am sure those programs reach less than 100 students...Hummmmm. Football might just fit in there too...

Hearing about them spending 5 hours on Tues. and more on Wed. back in executive session for personal reasons has me wondering. Do they have a court reporter? Do they have there attorney back with them that keeps them on tract to make sure they are only talking about items that they can talk about in executive session? Just making organization changes would not be considered executive session talks in my opinion. Every bit of training I had as a commissioner said to make sure you have a court reporter and county attorney in executive session to make sure they are not breaking the open meetings laws. They can't vote back there just come to a consensus. After the session is over and they take a vote then the transcript should be available publically with information reacted that is permitted by law. Just wondering

I ask you what could they be doing back in executive session so long. According to the Sentinel
http://dadesentinel.com/content.aspx?mo ... berID=1338
These were the decisions:
Quote:
Dade Elementary School
Retirees:
Nicki Hovan
Sue Ellen McMath
Sharon Turner
Brenda Childress

Dade Middle School
Retirees:
Sharon Morris
Resignations:
Alison Dean

Dade County High School
Retirees:
Billy Millican
Pat Taylor
Mike Reed
Linda Wilson
Cyndy Bowden
Resignations Already Accepted:
Jason Amy
Jeremy Austin
Tanja Barton
Resignations to be Accepted:
Victoria Griffith
Callie Ikard
Jessica Wright
Resignation:
Frank Stevens

Discussing retirement and resignations? There us no need to be in executive session for that. Discussing how you are going to shift around personal to fill the gaps by the mass exodus, there is no need for executive session on that. Voting on a calender. It has to be that they were coming up with a stategy in how to deal with everyone leaving. This is not right and should have been discussed in an open meeting. But don't worry pretty soon School boaords won't be able to be locked up any more.
