Here is a thread I am starting to talk about the regional sales tax. We must first approve it and then vote for the tax. If it passes even without a single yes vote from dade county we will still have to pay.
CALHOUN — Elected officials from 15 Northwest Georgia counties were urged to develop their “wish lists” of future road projects and not worry about selling the list to the voters.
An “unconstrained” Transportation-SPLOST list — with no financial limits — is due by March 30 from each of the 15 counties in the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission area. A 15-county vote on a narrowed-down package of projects is slated for August 2012, along with votes in the other 11 regions around the state. Floyd County created its list earlier this week.
“Don’t put the cart before the horse,” said Bill Steiner, executive director of the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission, during its monthly meeting in Calhoun. “Let’s wait until we see the plan before we worry about selling it to the voters.”
David Kenemer, a transportation planner with the regional planning agency, said once he submits the full unconstrained list to the state Department of Transportation, it could take several months to develop the final list, which must be reviewed by State Transportation Planner Todd Long and a regional roundtable.
“We will evaluate your lists, but at the end of the day, it will be the voters who decide if those lists are approved,” Long told the regional representatives Thursday.
Long said he fully expects the unconstrained list he received from each of the state’s 12 regional planning agencies to be much longer that available T-SPLOST funding. “But remember, we still will have the regular federal aid funding available to us for highway projects,” Long said. At the same time, Long said he “was very nervous” about the long-term future of federal highway assistance.
The state economist estimates a 10-year, 1-cent sales tax in the region would net more than $120 million a year. A quarter of the revenue would be divided among the counties for local projects that did not make the package.

Funny how we termed it "Wish List" instead of "Must Repair".... We have to be able to "Maintain" what we have before planning on "Wish List" but I guess in this county that means that we "Wish" that our roads wasn't falling off the mountain....lol...lol...
