This will be the only place that I know of that a discussion like this will be there for all who wants to see...
Since the "New Year" has now begun, we can discuss the future or lack of, here in Dade County politics.
I have always said that it's funny how local politics brings out the Good Ole Boy system in small counties such as ours. Can't get much help with volunteers unless it's election time and then afterwards it's back to the same ole way "It's always been"...
I have spent the last 10 years watching this county and it's politics and find it funny in the facts that we will point out during this topic.
While there maybe be just a few of us who comment here, we all have our eyes focused on seeing it for what it is. Although you may not agree (which is fine with us) we will never pull your comment or your freedom to do so.
As of this point and time, I do not have any vote cast for anyone who has said they will run. I do feel however that changes need to be made in some of the offices that have come up in this years election...............
Last but not least I would like to say that I NEVER like using the word "I" as much as I have in this post....lol..lol... Because it's really not about me or I, it's about the future of this county..... But you will hear this word alot in this up-coming election year..........
So let's all of "US" sit back and enjoy this next few months and comment on what we hear and see................

Well said. I was about to start a thread if you're running for office please explain why I should vote for you over the incumbent. If you run on the fact that I am from around here I will probably not vote for you. When you all of the sudden start showing up to the top meetings with these grand ideas, I will probably not vote for you. You will disappear after the election. Ok back to the subject at hand.
Please tell me what party you are running for or if you are running in a nonpartisan race. For the important stuff. I know the devil we have. You must give me a reason to get rid of him/her. If you just say I am great, well unless the incumbent has done so much bad that I am voting for someone else they are probably getting my vote, except:
If you can come out with a plan of how you will bring more transparency, cut buyers, and better innovation, then you have my attention. And I mean a plan not just a regurgitation of my statement above. For example I will have a website(how long have we waited for this) with minutes, schedules, videos. It doesn't have to be expensive and here is an example at ... .com. Or I am going to cut the budget by this amount, this is how I am going to do it and why.. If you are just running because you have election fever than go work at the party level or start attending meetings and get active for a few years unless you are an innovator..
Remember the incumbent in office may be a devil but, he's our devil. We know what we have.

I have lived here all my life--------- Means I have seen what has been going wrong with this county for years with leadership and accountability
I went to Dade County schools---------Means like all other Schools there are great things and not so great things about the School System that also needs leadership
My spouse is-----Means My number #1 Supporter because they understand the amount of time and work this position will take to make it right
My kids are------- Means they are like most others kids here in this county and I understand that they too can get into trouble
I played sports here-------- Means that you are now grown up in the real world and need to think more about others than yourself and your glory days
I attend Chruch here--------- Means I have been taught the right way to live and I may slip a little but will stand on my record and accountability before folks
My experience is---------- Means I have alot of time energy and effot in to getting this position because I know I am ready to LEAD this office
Last but not least I will do for this county------ Make this office this BEST it can be or Leave because I want what's BEST for this COUNTY

Seems the first meeting of the year (Republican) went well for Randy's Resturant because of the amount of folks who now show up to announce that they now will be running for office. While the past two years have seen little activity until now it benifits them to be seen. There have been however a few that have made an effort to attend meetings during their term in office. Why is this important you may ask. Because to let folks know what is going on in a more formal meeting than an official one and let it be known to how you want to see the position change or any concerns you might have. Most local folks would like to see Non-partisan races but most have to declare one party over another and really is nothing more than just running under the most popular party for the time. While some might want to "Declare" that they support one party over another, it is just something they do because they have to. "IF" they did support the party they would have let their presence be known during the past few years and not when it only benifits them. However we do understand the importance of the letters (I) and (R) and (D) in this day and time. It's the easy way out and don't take much thought or time to vote on those three letters by someone's name. That however is not always the BEST for a county like ours.
(I) means------- Incumbent
Here it means----- (I) should be able to keep my office till (I) retire because no matter how (I) do my job (I) deserve to keep it....
(R) means-----Republican
Here it means----- (I) am always (R)ight because being (R)epublican means (I) am always right.........
(D) means----- Democrat
Here it means.... I am (D)amned because them Republicans are always (R)ight...............
So you see now how all the letters beside your name really mean alot here in this county......

Today was my first day to notice the sign war has begun. Here on the north end we now have two signs (I think) from a candidate. One from our very own Tim McDonald for Sheriff and one that just says ROXIE! This is a sure sign that election time 2012 in now in order. We will be forced to look at road debris for months and months now. I have termed this time.... SIGN WAR! We have it ever election and I have very much been a part of it... (All in good fun)! I have even been accused of stealing signs (which I NEVER have) but have played alot of games with them, never touching the other signs in any way. Seem amazing to me the fun that sign wars seems to offer, on different ways to play the game. Now while signs will be stolen no doubt by folks who think that helps the other candidate if they are, I have to say it's always much more fun to outplay them.
Placement is most important but none is more important than actually getting people to let them be put into their yard. Most time you can pick the winner by yard signs... Most people will say... "Signs don't vote" but when placed in a person's yard they usually mean a vote for them. I actually heard stories about the ole days where you were afraid of placing a sign in your yard because of retaliation.
Now with as many folks we have running this year can you imagine the amout of signs we will have to look at ever day? But I will warn folks that stealing any sign is wrong and people should be punished for it. So with that said.......
Let the SIGN WAR BEGIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh and for the record there is no award for First Sign up.... Sorry Tim and ROXIE!

Now this session is on "Media Blitz"!
For those who are Incumbents this is very important part of the game. None being better played than the Sheriff at this time. This is where we put our name out there as much as we can to make folks think that we have been working this hard the whole time. There are two media outlets we have in this area to work with. BOTH will have their favorites and you can see them as well as the nose on your face. Now the Incumbent has the advantage in this way of campaigning, buy sending out press releases and photos to hide under the term of news. It don't cost the incumbent nor does the media have to give the same amount of time to opposition. They can use "official meetings" also to tell folks that they are doing the best job possible and it will be reported as part of the meeting. They can also add to their job by having community meetings to finally listen to the concerns of the people although no better time than election time.
Now for those who are not the Incumbents this is where it get's a little diffcult in that it will COST you the money to get your message out there. Sure you cand go to meeting at civic functions and get your picture in the paper but that really isn't effective. You need to be able to tell folks about why you seek the office and are a better candidate than what is there now. Here is the double edged sword! How do you tell the public that the person that is now in office (Incumbent) is not doing the job and all the faults you would like to see changed? People will call it a negitive campaign, although it could very well and most times be the truth.
But I happen to know that really the "Media Blitz" in Dade County is more of a "Media Burp" than anything. The only ones who really benifit from it, is the owners of the media sources and those who think they are really the voice of the people. As we watch the ads that hard working money is spent on, you have to wonder how many voters really base their vote on the media. At least our local media anyway.
In closing the funniest part of this whole process is the fact that we have a "Local Show" that most of the candidates have so much told me is a Joke but still have to be there because they are afraid of missing that one vote..... And you will never see any favorties on there.... Yea right!!!!! lol...lol...lol...
And for those who need a picture to say a "Thoudand Words" just look at "Tha Fluffer" website with the picture of the Sheriff and little girl that was found on Sand Mnt. and just ask yourself... Does it look staged????????
