Whynot go to a 160 day school year... Close school from on or about 20 Dec and not open back up till Feb 1 Just think how much we could save in heat,Elect food cost and fuel. Sorry About the loss of Babysitting for you folks who feel it is the Taxpayers who need to fund your child care bill afterall it is about education you know.

You'd have to teach them to read again in February. How about we make parents start paying out of their own pockets for their kid's education and then you'd see some people demanding better quality education. Of course they'd have to forego that new car every year and move to a smaller house so that option is probably out. Better to just send the kid to have the government educate them best they can and hope for the best.

The loss of learning is a crock of crap dreamed up to justify Educators keeping their jobs and keeping parent afraid if Biffy and Buffy is not in school 180 days they will forget what they have learned... If that is so why do we still have summer off? I'm sorry I did not buy into that when I was a teacher and I sure don't buy into it now...

In case my comments were too subtle, I'm on your side. :)

Not sure I am right on this issue but will someone tell me if this sounds right....

The Board voted 4-1 to set the millage rate that would include a half a mil increase. Board member Ronnie Page abstained from the vote, afterwards saying that he was in full support of the teachers, but still felt that there were some other areas that some money could have been cut

When Board Member Ronnie Page had the Gorilla in his face and chose to abstain to vote, is that a legal vote? I know just being a board member when I chose to use this "Option" it was only in the "Conflict of Interest", Not sure that being scared to say NO to those wasting money is a conflict of interest. But then again it just goes to show you how the "Game is Played" and how they "Play for Blood"! or in antoher words... "It's Fer the Kids"! Might have as well voted YES with the rest of them...JMO!

I ask everone to take and read the comments that the teachers made during the last meeting about the budget. As I set there and read the comments, I had to ask... "Why even bother"? Was the vote not already set on how they board members would vote? Had this not been the final vote? Would the board in a stroke of brilliance not vote yes and make them cut out more?

Or was this simply the Gorilla showing it's muscle and letting folks know just how important that Subway was to all taxpayers?

I have to laugh at watching the game being played although it's like a Football game where this un-defeated team plays against the win-less team and just scores another touchdown with 3 seconds left in the game to make the score 146-00....... And then goes for the 2 point conversion when Ronnie Page ABSTAINED!

Don't you like how I added the "Sports" to the issue?...lol...lol...lol... But since we only won by 148 shouldn't we hire another COACH???????????????

When a politician abstains from a vote they thumb their noses at the people who elected them. They were elected to vote and represent the people who elected them. Their Lack of Testicular Fortitude to me is grounds for me never to vote for them for anything because when something really Important is to be voted on they might just abstain. It is a way to have plausible deniability if something goes wrong. The people elected should take a stand one way or another.. not duck and hide to CYA. Also the vote was not 4-1 it was 4 For and 1 Abstain, Just to get it right… sometimes the “Fluffier” and the “Dade County Rag “should proof what they print when it comes to getting votes correct. JMO

I am thinking he voted no and the writers don't know any better. I was wondering the same thing.

We will need something better than these two to get that done. After all these ole boys have an agenda (Not always the same one) and since they are from around here, then why should they check out anything like "Facts"!

Well here is how it reads in the Sentinel....

Board member Ronnie Page voted against the increase with all the other board members voting in favor.

So who was right?

Not that it really matters but a VOTE is a VOTE!
