MIDDLE SCHOOL COACHES HIRED BY SCHOOL BOARD 8-17-10
The Dade County School Board was in Executive Session for over an hour at last night’s regular monthly meeting to discuss several personnel matters as well as the hiring of coaches at Dade Middle School. For the upcoming fall sports season, James McMahan, Greg Houts, and Matt High were hired as football coaches, Robin Moore as the cheerleading coach and Valene Reoelfs and Kendra Moore as softball coaches. Anna Thomas and Buddy Durham will be the Cross Country coaches for the upcoming season. Boys’ basketball will be led by Brandon Ballad and Buddy Durham and girls’ basketball will be coached by Regena Logan and Misty Phillips. The Middle School’s baseball team will be under Jonathan Page, James Emmett, and Greg Houts and the soccer team will be coached by Adam Wright and Bill Tillman. Chris Barnes will be the wrestling for the upcoming season. Jonathan Page was also hired as the new Athletic Director for the Middle School.
2 lay coaches were also hired: Josh Gifford for baseball and Jason Monday for football. The hire of Monday was approved unanimously, but board member Ronnie Page voted “no” for Gifford’s hire. “I’ve had several baseball parents call me and tell me they are opposed to him being hired as a coach,” Page said, “so that’s what my vote was based on.”
Jonathan Page was also hired as the new Athletic Director for the Middle School. So we need two ATHLECTIC DIRECTORS?????? What in the World is going on?
Is these just title coaches or they paying positions? I will find out tonight!

And this is the same School System that is going up on taxes and is in big trouble with finances????????? And sports is not State Mandated???????????
I remember the days when Coaching was mainly volunteer! But I guess we wasn't thinking we were gonna produce the next "Big Thing" and WIN the next Championship! This just isn't funny at all.....

Take it easy on the coaches guys. After all, they're the only employees of the school system, with the possible exception of school bus drivers, who are actually held accountable for their performance. Incompetent teachers can go on for decades but let a coach have two back-to-back losing seasons and you can stick a fork in them.
BTW, I agree that if they were serious about saving money they'd cut back on athletics. If they're willing to cut back on instruction but leave football, etc., in place it tells me they're not serious although they probably are reflecting the wishes of the parents of the students. Unfortunately.

That is the WHOLE ISSUE. You hit it right on the head. But the parents of kids who aren't in School Sports think that everthing is o.k. till they are spending their money on a College Education and finding their child has been "LEFT BEHIND" while attending Dade County High School.
You can see the score at the end of a BALLGAME but you can't see a score till your child is "trying to make it in college" till it's to late.... JMO

You are correct sir. At the point of losing HOPE they realize they have squandered 12 years of their child's life and possibly destined him/her to a life of mediocrity. Good news is that all the government school board members, administrators and teachers are still employed and feeling really good about themselves and planning for next year's football season.

And in accordance with the Ad in this weeks paper. If you pay to join a private organization you will get reserved free parking on a parking lot paid for with tax dollars while the rest of us that can't afford to join after that tax increase do not share that same luxury. I wonder if dadeinfo could charge a membership fee and then we could get the same privledges?

Wonder if as much though will be put in his replacement as was put into the seach fo a new Super... Wonder if the High Dollar Educational Consultant has some one in mind... Just saying...
