I just got a mailer from our Senator Jeff Mullis. In the mailer it said:
Quote:
Mullis is Fighting Illegal Immigration, Arizona Style
Seanator Mullis has been on the forefront of fighting illegal immigration in Georgia. He helped pass legilation denying them taxepayer funded benifits and instituting new safeguards to make sure illegals do not register to vote. He has already filed legislation for next year(emphasis mine) that will implememant an Arizona style approach to stopping illegal immigration, giving our local law enforcement the power to arrest and deport illegal immigrants.

I will have to call BS on this prefiled legislation. Here is a link to his sponsored legislation page:
http://www.legis.ga.gov/legis/2009_10/m ... rd.htm#sec I dont see it there.
Here is the link to prefiled legislation page:
http://www.legis.ga.gov/legis/2009_10/f ... refile.htm That is the only link for prefilers that I see. I don't see it there.

Even his press release says something different.
Quote:
Mullis Co-authors Anti-Illegal Immigration Legislation
CHICKAMAUGA (July 6, 2010) – Senate Transportation Chairman Jeff Mullis (R-Chickamauga) will co-author legislation(emphasis mine) that will provide for greater enforcement of federal illegal immigration laws in Georgia. Mullis will join fellow Georgia Senate GOP colleagues later this summer for the official announcement of the legislation.

Maybe someone needs to politifact check him. I guess the details of has already and will may not be a big idea to you but I call it false advertising. I thought the prefiling didnt happen until later in the year and my friend and front page poster at http://www.unitedliberty.org/ Jason Pye has confirmed this doesn't happen until around Thanksgiving.

Makes you wonder why he voted "DO PASS" on that Democrat bill calling for comprehensive immigration reform back on March 9th doesn't it?

The Chattanooga Times Free Press printed my letter to the editor about Mullis' hypocrisy, if not outright lie, about this alleged bill he's already filed. Back in March he voted in committee for a bill that called on the federal government to legalize every would have legalized every illegal alien in the country. Now he's claiming to sponsor a bill that will give us an Arizona-like immigration law. Can you say "flip flop?"

David is my new hero. I'm sure if I asked him he could find a video, or at least an audio, of the second gunman on the grassy knoll in Dallas in 1963.

"A better yes?" The better yes already exists. It's called the rules for immigration. He's looking for a shortcut to amnesty.

Just a little funny follow up to this post. Jeff was named one of Georgia Trends 100 Most Influential Georgians
http://www.georgiatrend.com/cover-story/01_11_mig.shtml

Here is what was said.
Quote:
Jeff Mullis
State Senator
Chickamauga
Age: 51
Mullis was writing legislation similar to Arizona’s tough new immigration laws when Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle recruited him to be part of a committee that will make immigration a main focus of the coming session. As chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, Mullis also secured a $14.2-million federal study grant for a proposed high-speed rail system connecting Atlanta and Chattanooga.

The pre files started rolling in on about 11/15/2009. That is when you can start filing them for the up coming session. See Campaign flyer above and the date I posted it.
You can read a little bit more on Cagle appointing hime in an Article I did for Georgia Legislative Watch here:

Either way, seems as if the outgoing Governor has some thoughts on the idea....

AP Interview: Gov Perdue warns GOP on immigration
Dec 22, 2010 11:44am Email Print ATLANTA (AP) — Outgoing Gov. Sonny Perdue said Wednesday that fellow Republicans need to choose their words carefully when it comes to the emotionally charged debate over immigration.
");?> In an interview with The Associated Press, Perdue declined to say whether he thought Georgia should adopt an Arizona-style immigration law as some state legislators have said they would like to do in the coming legislative session.

"You know I'm leaving Jan. 10?" he quipped.

But Perdue said his party needs to avoid "a gang-type mentality" that could be harmful to those "who want the American dream."

"The Republican Party needs to be very, very careful that it maintains the golden rule in its rhetoric regarding immigration policy," Perdue told The AP.

Perdue said the GOP needs to ensure that "people of color and people who are not U.S.-born" feel welcome. "And I think that's the challenge of the Republican Party."

"(Immigration) is a very emotive, emotion-filled topic that I think sometimes gets us out there where our hearts really aren't," Perdue said.

Still, Perdue — who signed a law in 2006 designed to crack down on illegal immigrants in Georgia and campaigned on the issue in his re-election bid that same year — said he believed the federal government has failed on the issue, leaving the hard work to the states.

"We can love all people while loving the law and expecting the law to be fulfilled and that's a tricky balance," Perdue said.

Immigration was a hot topic in the Georgia governor's race won by Republican Nathan Deal and several new measures are expected to come before lawmakers when they reconvene at the state Capitol in January.

Deal said during the campaign that he would support an Arizona-style immigration law. That state approved a measure that requires police officers, when enforcing other laws, to question the immigration status of those they suspect are in the country illegally.

Perdue, Georgia's first Republican governor since Reconstruction, is leaving office on Jan. 10 after two terms.

The Nov. 2 election handed Republicans control of all statewide seats.

Every single one of these elected officials is also a white male, and Perdue said Wednesday that over the long term that could pose a problem for the state Republican Party in a state where minority populations are on the rise.

But Perdue said he is proud of the number of women and minorities who have served in his own administration. He said, at one point, 60 percent of the state's budget was allocated to agencies led by African Americans, both male and female.
