Check out the picture on the front page of the Independent. Looks like the whole gang was there. It was fer the kids along with Public saftey and the Morals of our fine commuinty. Can you tell that it's getting closer to election time???? lol...lol... I can't tell which picture I liked better, the one in the Sentinel with Brock all laid back or this one in the Independent where we show the world we have the most Christian Soldiers in the country.

I have never seen that one man, with one sign with one word on it, create such an uproar. It's just to simple to not laugh at. In most Cities, it's all about having the ability to attract business in hopes to see your City not become shut down. You want to create jobs and bring business to the downtown area much like the City of Chatt. but not to that scale. It's called planning folks. It takes alot of work, with community support. We need some quality folks that understand this issue and need to get folks who also understand to support them. Seems to me that this City is dying if not already dead.

I understand somewhat about the issue of the 300 foot barrier, but in this City where there is a Church ever 200 foot, it was a waste of time to even suggest having this ordinance. There is ONLY ONE resturant that I eat at in Trenton now that we have left, because Fast Food is a place to get just that, and faster is in Lookout Valley for me. The City of Trenton has nothing to offer folks to keep them "In Town".

I spent a great deal of my time in this little City, tying to improve the way it conducts itself inside the County. With very little support for such things as "Family Living" it fell apart because I chose the route of accoutabilty after seeing far to many times of an agenda of nothing but self help. I am truly amazed at how this City has made it for the past few years with all the spending and have spoken of it often.

You have to be able to make baby steps in order to improve but when you "Think" and "Promote" youself as being the "Best you can be" you have to show some direction of that. You just can't set back and say, that it's ok for ME so what is the Problem. It's not about YOU! But in this City far to many times that is what happens.... Take for example the first line in this post.....

One person, with One sign, with One word on it......

Was trying to attract a "Finer" Resturant to the City a bad idea? Well no matter now... Well just settle for what we have....

It's pretty funny when a pro makes the mistake on writing an article in the paper. I do it all the time but when someone does it, it's just to funny Here is the quote I have taken from this weeks Sentinel.....

Mayor Barton Harris agreed saying he also was in favor and that discussions with all council members had taken place. On a roll call vote all members present voted in favor of the 300 feet buffer between churches and restaurants that request a license to see beer and wine.

Not sure that anyone needs to request a license to SEE beer and wine... Or is that the next Big Trip to Atlanta planned by our local "Action Group"?????????

I am sorry but maybe someone should look at the law. I know you guys hate that but what I hear was that the City passed a 300' from property line of a church to a building. errrnt. Sorry can't do that. Here is the GA code.
Quote:
(a) (1) No person knowingly and intentionally may sell or offer to sell:

(B) Any wine or malt beverages within 100 yards of any school building, school grounds, or college campus. This subparagraph shall not apply at any location for which a license has been issued prior to July 1, 1981, nor to the renewal of such license. Nor shall this subparagraph apply at any location for which a new license is applied for if the sale of wine and beer was lawful at such location at any time during the 12 months immediately preceding such application;

(2) As used in this subsection, the term "school building" or "educational building" shall apply only to state, county, city, or church school buildings and to such buildings at such other schools in which are taught subjects commonly taught in the common schools and colleges of this state and which are public schools or private schools as defined in subsection (b) of Code Section 20-2-690.

(b) Nothing contained in this Code section shall prohibit the licensing of the sale or distribution of alcoholic beverages by:

(3) Licensees for the retail sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises only who shall be subject to regulation as to distances from churches, schools, and colleges by counties and municipalities.

and the kicker

Quote:
(c) For purposes of this Code section, distances shall be measured by the most direct route of travel on the ground.

Did you notice above that it state church building. So what we see here is that it is building to building along the most direct route of travel. If that means walking down a side walk or street, that is how the distance is to be measured. Did you also notice that it didn't mention on premise for malt and beverage only alcoholic beverages. So in reading the law they may not be able to add more stringent laws on distances or they may not even be able to put a buffer on on premise malt beverage because the state did not grant them that power through legislation.. Just my opinion.

After reading all the differing views and listening all the posturing to acquire political gain one has to wonder… if a restaurant sells beer or wine will everyone in the city and county become falling down, commode loving drunks?

I am looking for a group of people, one must be "Friends" with "Tha Fluffer" and maybe two or three running for office, a Preacher looking to be seen, to form a group to go back to form a Law in Atlanta and ask that NO CHURCH be built within a 300' buffer to a bar. This will make it eaiser for all those folks NOT to see (or to be seen) that close to a bar. I just hope that we can get our picture taken talking with the Famous Mullis and look like we are "Gettin R Done"!!!!!!!!! lol...lol...

I am new to the area and I realize that there is obviously some ugly history between a few people on this forum and the above mentioned group. But, I feel like we shouldn't disrespect people who are actually attempting to do something for our community. Again, I am sure the responce will be "Ronny, you dont have a clue." Maybe so, but it seems like if people had something against the "Action Group", they would make a stand just as they are. Regardless of your stance on alcohol, at least they aren't sitting idle and complaining without taking action.

Not at all. Just because of "Ugly History" between a couple of folks don't mean there is anything else but that. Some folks have their "Bully Pulpit" to air their "History" and some have another. I myself was raised on RESPECT but you can loose it just the same as earning it. There are alot of hard-working folks here in this County. But sometimes folks can do all the RIGHT things for all the WRONG reasons. In the end you have to ask... Was it worth it? Was it really for the good of the County or just another case of "Look at ME".

I had a man yesterday tell me that President Bush put all those lives in Danger to be killed because he wanted to make up for his dad's mistake of not finishing the job. Now I understand that he don't like the fact but really does that mean that any Amercian wants to see another man die for his agenda???????

What I am saying with that example is that while we might Disagree on certain things with folks, there is no doubt that everone mentioned on this Blog site is really a NOT a Bad Person. They just have an agenda that I diagree with.

There are at least two in the picture that I have considered "Friends" and one that I very much respected up until I seen for myself what was going on. It was only after I spoke out that it became "Ugly History". That is my weakness on my part. But I have told many people it's not about me turning my cheek but trying not to see others have to continue to turn theirs because no one speaks of it.

They say a picture is worth a "Thousand Words" but sometimes you have to ask! Worth it for who and why was it used?
