With the last election for Mayor some have been saying this was a message to City hall we don't want the beer. Come on really? Do you really think this was a mandate. I heard this is what one lady was saying on her local show. Have you looked at the numbers?
From the Sentinel.
Quote:
Anthony Emanuel won the mayors race for the City of Trenton with a total of 150 votes. Barton Harris received 83 votes and Tommy Lowery received 76 votes.

Tommy Lawson and Greg Houts were re-elected to Fire and Utilites Commissioner and Streets Commissioner, respectively, unopposed. Lawson received 231 votes and Houts received 224 votes.

There was a total of 309 votes cast in the City election.

First the election had a total of 309 votes. Lawson and Houts received 78 and 85 votes less than the 309 respectively. These were two who voted against the Ordinance. I guess using the "that they got sent a message logic" people were sending them a message.

Now let's look at the mayors race. According to the Secretary of States web page there are 1205 active voters in the Municipality of Trenton precinct 609. This is different from the Dade County Trenton precinct 960 which has 2314. So we have the total number of active voters now. Let's see 309 is what percentage of 1205? It's about 26%. So only 26% of the people cared about beer at restaurants. Are you still with me local Dade radio and tv people? Now, it was widely publicized that Emanuel said "the matter may not have been handled the best but it should not be revisited", and Harris was behind his decision. Lowery was the only one that campaigned to the effect "I will repeal it" only got 76 votes in the election. That is 6% of the active voters and 24% of last election. Emanuel and Harris got a combined vote total of 233 or 19% of active voters and 75% of the last election. So 75% of the last election was in favor of yes beer and pizza. Or another way 74% were not to concerned with the beer at the local pie slingin joint to come out and vote.

I thought there were two precincts covering Trenton but only one polling place for elections? Anyway, I agree with your analysis.

I guess people are looking forward to the "Better Quality of Life" promised on the winner's campaign signs. My mom says her quality of life would be better if the city mowed her yard every week so I guess come springtime she'll see the mowers roll in no doubt.

If folks were using the slogan on campaign signs as an indication as how life will be when elected... I guess Mr. Harris's sign musta lied... "No Change Needed"!!!!!! lol...lol...lol....

First you must look at the "Source"! Then remember where you are at... Then when you do the numbers remember that as many as 6 folks told her she was right and that counts for all of the city. No doubt that some folks needed a simple reason to vote like the beer and wine issue. At least they voted... But anyone to think that was the reason that the Mayor seat changed is as stupid as the show it was said on by the person who said it.....
