The City of Trenton has somewhat opened the "Pandora's Box" even discussing this, and not really wanting it. "If" they really were serious about this issue they would have put together a plan of action to see it brought before the folks better than the added agenda item.
I understand as MUCH AS ANY COMMISSIONER about needing REVENUE for the City and County. I don't live under a Rock and am concerned about the Future of this place I love to live. I even spent ALOT of money and bought a thriving business and put it in the MIDDLE of Trenton in hopes of drawing folks here to SHOP. Even spent all my Time, Volunteering to help make this your "City for Family Living". As I stood there in the meeting Thur. and listened to people speak, I understood how important this was gonna be to some folks. To me, I live as close to the State line and it takes only 14 minutes to drive to downtown Chatt. I seldom do much business in Trenton because of "other reasons' than what most folks think about.
Now the issue is that the City is "Looking for Revenue"! With adding new buildings and having more expense than last year, the economy dipping and the cost of living always going up, where do you come up with the REVENUE to pay for all this expence? Well just look at the blogs under the news channel topic on this issue and this is where the "Box" has been opened. Like at the meetings when people are asked where do we get the REVENUE from other than this Ordinance, Folks will make the City very mad and upset by telling them to CUT the COST! They are doing it in such a way that Commissioners get upset and defend their spending of taxpayers money.

As I watched Mrs. Gray get upset and see folks other than myself post about Firetrucks and waste of money in the City, I have to go back to my Circle Theory that lines up with a Friends Ugly Baby theory. As long as the thoughts and belif is that everthing is O.K. in "Our Cirlce" then it must be true, and NO ONE is gonna tell someone else that they have an "UGLY BABY"! I know that when I left the house Thursday evening, my wife asked me not to speak on this issue. She was somewhat dissappointed in my being on the news but I have always made a stand. I tried "Working with folks" in Dade County but seen after 5 years what a waste of time that was. Even the folks in the same circle stab each other trying to get ahead in their "Pet Agenda".....It's kinda sad when the Community can't work together...
But as I was saying there will be alot of fallout from the talk of this Ordinance other than the Evil of Drink and the Revenue it brings in...

Here is an example of what I am saying.....
I was not able to attend the Submitted by Guest (not verified) on August 13, 2010 - 10:17am. I was not able to attend the meeting last night. However, I will be attending the meeting in September to speak against this ordinance.
It is foolish to somehow think that this is the answer to the economic problem in Trenton. The first step should be to control spending. For instance, why does a town like Trenton need a police force of 6-8 people when the sheriff's department could easily patrol the small parameter of the city? Whay does the city of Trenton need a ladder truck when there is not a single building in the city over three stories tall?
Before we begin moving toward such a divisive issue as allowing beer sales, we need to hold this council accountable for their waste. Additionally, the support against this measure is much more than was evidenced last night. Just wait until this next meeting ans word gets out. This council may not allow the people to vote on this measure, but I can assure you that the citizens will have their vote. Anyone who votes for this will not have a chance in hades of being re-elected in Trenton, GA. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Why does the city need 6-8 Submitted by Guest (not verified) on August 13, 2010 - 6:02pm. Why does the city need 6-8 police officers? Well, how about you looking and seeing how many murders we have had in the past 20 years in the city??? Or look up the crime rate for the city? Not much of a crime rate at all huh? Take away all of those officers who patrol our streets to keep our kids save and then the crime rate will go sky high. There will be tons more drugs on the streets for our children to get ahold of as well. The county only has a budget for so many officers to patrol the entire area of Dade County. It is not the duty of the county to patrol our city. Is it that you may think they make too much money? I can assure you, as the wife of an officer in Trenton, that you can go to one of the indrusties here and make more money than them. Why not look at the schools and all the money that they keep taking to pay the ridiculous salaries for the teachers or the nutritionist. How does $80,000 a year for a nutritionist sound to you? Makes you think twice about dogging the City PD huh?
So you think that you can assure us that whoever on the counsil votes for this will not be re-elected? I bet you are one of the ones that goes to hooters in CHATTANOOGA and has a pitcher of beer with your hot wings. Why would you want anyone to go to some other city and spend money instead of keeping the money in out LOCAL city????? This is obviously the reason why you are on the counsil, huh?

I am wonder if meybe we can get the co-olition of used underware stores to sponser the park with the motto come shop in Trenton we got you used underwares?
State Parks To Seek Corporate Sponsors By Melissa Stiers ATLANTA — The marketing company the state hired in July is in the process of identifying what the parks could offer companies in exchange for sponsorship and what companies would be a good match for the park’s mission and programs.(Pictured: Red Top Mountain State Park, courtesy Edgar Treiguts)Georgia has found a marketer to help sell advertising at its state parks to help keep them open.
The marketing company the state hired in July is working on commission. It’s in the process of identifying what the parks could offer companies in exchange for sponsorship and what companies would be a good match for the park’s mission and programs.
Sarah Dearman with the Department of Natural Resources says the parks already partner with corporations for some events and in exchange, they’re given recognition on the Georgia State Parks website and brochures. This new initiative will expand on that to possibly include signage at the park themselves.
"If there is signage, it’s going to be very limited, and it’s going to be extremely small and blend in well," says Dearman.
Dearman says the DNR will approach businesses the first of September with its new ideas.
The state parks system has reduced staff, cut park hours, and closed amenities this recession.

Using the philosophy of if the resaurants sell beer or wine the dui's will go up I propose the following:
We need to close the parks and sell the land. Drugs are sold at parks. If we don't have any more parks then the drug sales and driving while under the influence of drugs will go down.
Quote:
The Veterans Park in Chickamauga was another location where the drugs were being sold, he said.

I am hearing some interesting rumors on restaurants that are activly looking or just stopped looking. I am betting some of naysayers would change their toon real quick if they found out a Macaroni Grill was looking at Trenton. The rumor I am hearing is from a commercial real estate developer from Chattanooga that probably hasn't even set foot in Dade but he or she goes to the right breakfast's maybe at the Walden Club or one a little more facier than that. I guess it is ok for your country club to serve.

I still think it's a stretch to think that any top tier restaurant is going to open a new location in someplace like Dade County in this economy. Five years ago maybe, but not now. People point to the Costco opening but that's a different model. Costco will cater to people trying to SAVE money on things people must have. The first thing people give up in hard times are meals out at expensive or even moderately priced restaurants. If you doubt this just look at how many Starbucks have closed. People who were buying $4 Lattes are now buying coffee at McDonalds. People who were eating at Outback are back to eating at fast food. In economics it's called the income effect. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Income_effect

I KNOW that one Resturant WAS Interested coming to Trenton just a few months ago. But you will never get anyone to say so because of the confidential order much like COSCO had with Fort O. And you can't tell by looking at Outback that anything is wrong.. Just ask some of the folks who are "agin" this ordinace who have to wait on a table there...lol..lol..lol... Oh and for the record on Lattes, My wife still loves hers (good thing a Starbucks hasn't requested to come to Dade County and folks were "agin" it) but she has just cut back much like all of us need to do including the goverment but we still have a Subway (just one) about ever week....lol..lol... Not because Pattie says so either....

I am starting to get confused at our times. We have preachers arguing for guns in churches it is our constitutional right then we have others arguing against being able to buy a glass of wine when we can get it at every cornershop, cvs, grocery store and I am sure soon to be dollar general store in town. Then I hear about people who claim they are (for less government intrusion) are arguing either they are again or the supposed "they" people are against it. I guess that might cut down on wine and cheese fundraisers and receptions at their business. The very basic issue is that a business should be allowed to open up and sell beer and wine by the glass. If you are against this then join the party of more government intervention. Don't say you are for gun rights and then against this. Don't say you are against this and for freedom to worship. Anybody been to some of the small towns in Murphy NC, or in NE Georgia? They have had the same arguments we are having now. I don't see them as these great evil towns. I do see thriving downtowns with great restaurants. Some even have bars upstairs. Think of all the quaint towns that you like with thriving downtowns and what do they have? Some sort of sales. So if you are against progress than you can be against this. All these nay sayers want to call out some foward thinking polititians. Don't be suprised if we don't point out in our society pages when we see you at some of the restaurants that serve. I am not talking about the regulars that blog here.

Oh now David, you understand the system. Look Big outside the Pulpit because of trying to be the Big Fish in the "BIG" pond when you spend all your time being the "Small Pond" and get the chance to announce to the world that you are "Making a Stand" for the good of man cracks me up. The one Pastor on the News 12 website really is known for this tactic. Do as I say and not as I do by attending the very Resturants that he wants to keep having a chance out here. I found the one post about wanting the land next to the Proposed Wal-Mart site as just an example. Peoples knowledge of Economic Growth amazes me when they try to know about something they have no clue about. Growth is spurred by NEW BUSINESS! Not no second hand clothing store or Local Resturant like the one across the street from City Hall. We need business with a "PLAN" and with the finiances to BUILD new Buildings like our Goverment and Churches do. This City is a "Tired, Ole Rundown Site" and needs something to Spur it back to life, but I am afraid that they time has come and past. All you have to do is LOOK both North and South to see what I am saying...
But when you are PREACHING to folks that Wine in the Bible isn't really Wine, and eating at those Resturants, you have little if ANY time to know about Economic Development....
