One thing that you're overlooking in this is that once the responsibility was moved from the Probate judge to the BOER she had no control over the cost any longer so you can't fault Jan for the fact that it ended up costing more than she estimated. Blame me, or the commission or whoever but again it costs what it costs. The sheriff gets what he wants only because the commission doesn't have the stones to tell him no and challenge him to go to court to prove he doesn't get enough money. If they ever do that I believe the sheriff would find out that he gets "enough" money to carry out his mission, but not everything he wants which is basically what he's gotten since he took office.

What I am remembering is when she appeared before the Board of Commissioners, she explained that it took alot of her time and it really wound't cost the county any more money. Now I have worked elections for the City and I know how much work it involves during election time, but to sit there and pee on my leg and tell me it takes as many as it does on payroll during non-election time is just plain wrong. But it still goes back to my orginal post of it Growing Goverment...... It was handled by that office till it was told that it was a good idea and look what it costs what it costs. It was also another good idea to put on another Judge and it will cost what it cost.... Bottom line is that I'm really not "Faulting" Jan other than she was mislead on that issue of it not costing anymore. Maybe she is not mislead on this issue but right now, should we take that chance? I still say that adding a Title will always cost the taxpayer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess they had to include everyone to get it to pass.
Quote:
Probate Courts. Judge Clarke reviewed their 2008 legislative agenda detailed in the handout provided. Proposed changes to Title 15 involve expanding probate court jurisdiction over construction of wills in probate; also authorization for legal name changes to be granted by the probate court; authorize probate judges in urban counties to appoint associate judges to assist with growing caseloads; other changes involve terms of court and granting of emergency conservatorships.

Note another focus group was lobbying to increase salaries.

You can see for yourself how Lobbying can change things in a hurry. Like I have said from the get-go, this isn't about Jan as much as the position and it can and WILL cost the county more money. Folks Dade County just isn't as big as the growth of Goverment we have had in the past years. Look at our Goverment Buildings! We have went from Rags to Riches in the past 20 years and not that much more revenue coming in. It don't take a genius to figure this out. Yes we need to grow, I've said that all along. But you have to plan and that's where we stump our toe evertime. In this case no one had looked at the Big Picture and we got in a big hurry for this "History" to be made and didn't even check the law.

I'm still trying to figure out the article in the Sentinel but the one thing I know that everone forgets is "THE LAW"! It don't matter "IF" or "WHY" but the fact is that the LAW was not followed and to quote the Judge blaming it on David is somewhat funny to me. Everone wants people to be involved till it involves the Good Ole Boys!

Ellison showed the Sentinel the printout of an email from former Commissioner David Young that accused her of just that. She denied the implication with some heat but said the email had made the rounds of county officials and was probably what had started the commotion.

Poor Ole David, I hope he doesn't have to appear in front of the Judge anytime soon...lol...lol..lol....
