These are the words we heard this morning from our County Executive this morning in reference to the special called meeting for an ordinance to prevent a substance abuse center coming to the north end of the clinic. Yes they will use methodone a substance used to help those trying to get off meth, heroine, and othr drugs. I thought the idea was to get people off drugs. If they are worried about the methodone should we ban pharmacies that dole out oxycotten. How many of those have been broken in to in Dade County in the last year?
I am not for zoning. We can look at history. Who increased the logging fees and ordinance? Who pasted a ordinance chasing away the paper company on the North End? Who got a subdivision ordinance passed under the name of Road Ordinance? Need we go on. Should we next look at a noise ordinance for them pesky handgliders( I am being sarcastic here). Those dogs are a problem should we pass a spay and neuter ordinance? I like Northern Bathroom tissue. Ted Could you pass an ordinance that Dade Countians are only allowed to use Northern Toilet Paper?

I'll be your NIMBY... Not In My Back Yard! I am in agreement that Dade County doesn't need this Clinic. But on the other hand, you can't claim to be against zoneing but yet pass ordinances against ever thing you don't like. THAT IS ZONEING! The Dade County way of Ready, Fire, Aim has once again raised it's head from the sand. A Special Called Meeting one week before the Regular called meeting? Sounds like the Commission don't even have enough respect to ask them to come before the Commission on a regular night and discuss their decision with them, unlike the owners coming before them to let them know that they we thinking of coming to Dade County. Not to mention some fine Christian Folks who are telling us that "THEY" are for forgiving and helping those in need..... Well Well Well....

Well right now, it's being called a resolution (which don't amount to much) but are having it drawn up to an Ordinance. I still can't understand why the big RUSH for just a Resolution to say that we are "Agin" it. Like that was a suprise...lol..lol Here again, it's not that I think that we need such a place, but in other parts of this country it would be followed by a lawsuit. You just can't always pass Ordinances against what you don't like just before they move in. One day with someone with a pocket full of money will teach these "Country Bumkins" a lesson.

For those who aren't aware, a fews years back, one Commissioner (Who wasn't a good Ole Boy) made the suggestion that ZONEING come to Dade County, They almost hung him from the nearest tree. They came with all kinds of Zoneing laws from all over the County and scared folks to death and then it was dropped. But as of last night's Commission meeting, they have just done that. Yea, I know they call it "Land Use Management" but I have attened classes in which they teach you that "New Term" can replace the Z word. I've really never been against certain forms of Zoneing but then again, I have said so from the get-go.
We've had one Commissioner tell folks for years, that HE would never allow Zoneing come to Dade County and last night he told the rest of the Commission that this was the only way to keep Dade County the way they wanted it. They did read the ordinance to prevent the Methadone but also set other guidelines known as Zoneing (even if they use the other words). This is the issue that I take with the Good Ole Boy System of saying one thing and doing the other. As long as it benifits them they are "fer" it. I don't care WHAT words you use but when you as the Goverment tell folks what they can and can't use their property for it is ZONEING!
I'm glad that a Methadone clinic is not gonna build next door to me, but I have no problem in telling folks that Zoneing is the only thing that will keep them from doing that. Sometimes you have to be a Big Boy and stand behind the fact that times have changed and it finally caught Dade County with their pants down AGAIN!
A methadone clinic is a clinic which has been established for the dispensing of methadone (Dolophine), a schedule II narcotic analgesic, to those who abuse heroin and other opiates. The focus of these clinics is the elimination or reduction of opiate usage by putting the patient on methadone. Some clinics also offer short- or long-term detoxification services to their patients using methadone. A common term for the type of treatment at a Methadone Clinic is "Replacement Therapy". While generally considered successful as a treatment method, the use of this maintenance treatment is often viewed as controversial. Methadone is considered a very helpful drug for people that use the drug the way it is prescribed.
Methadone clinics in the United States operate under close federal observation and regulation. The medication is monitored by nursing staff and is prescribed by a physician. Regulations require that to enter this form of treatment, the person must show current addiction to an opiate. This is generally established by a simple urine sample. A medical examination is given prior to administration of the methadone, and new patients are often tested for certain conditions which are known to be prevalent in addict populations, such as HIV, Hepatitis, and Tuberculosis.
In the United States, there are generally two types of Methadone Clinics, public and private. The public clinics are generally cheaper to attend. However, there is usually a waiting list due to limited funding. The private clinics are more expensive to attend but usually have either a short or no waiting list.
In many parts of the United States, methadone clinics are few and far between, which presents problems for addicts seeking methadone treatment who live far from a clinic. The greatest concentrations of clinics are in California, Maryland, New York, and New Jersey.
An important part of treatment for addiction is counseling. All Methadone clinics will offer counseling by regulation. However, the emphasis on counseling will vary widely. Clinics require attendance at counseling groups as well as individual counseling contacts. It is generally accepted that the more intensive the counseling contacts the individual is willing to submit to, the higher the success rate of the program.
Although not required by regulation at this time in the United States, people are usually encouraged to attempt other types of treatment methods prior to entering methadone treatment programs. Most treatment programs will only accept someone to treatment after failure at less intense treatment methods. While not restricted to adults, this treatment method is generally not considered for people under the age of 18.
Clinics operate as any other addiction medical facility. The staff usually consist of a physician to monitor the medications and treatments and nurses to administer the medication and ensure effective delivery (i.e.. the person will actually consume the product). Additionally, drug counselors will be available for individual and group counseling, and there will be administrative staff to run the administrative functions. Frequently, the clinical operations of the clinic will be housed in a hospital setting although this is not required by US law. Methodone is a legal substance control treatment therapy.
One thing I have read that they treat a lot of oxycotin addicts. After the string of pharmacy robberies maybe they will reduced here is a graph of the cost:
CrestwoodComet, 05/12/10 1:01 It's so sad--but so very typical--that people have no comprehension of how methadone treatment works, of why it is needed--often long term, like any other medication for a chronic disorder--or of the fact that methadone treatment is far and away the most successful method of treatment for opioid addiction. These residents likely wouldn't think twice about a local AA group meeting in their church, library, etc near children and businesses--but do they stop to consider that these meetings attract the very same patients in the throes of addiction? That many are still using or have relapsed as they attend? That many have criminal records? That drug dealing and swapping goes on? But you never hear a peep of protest--and there are seldom any issues affecting neighbors or people in the vicinity for either AA meetings OR methadone clinics. The clinics come, the protest goes on and on, sometimes citizens get so worked up they themselves become the threat--throwing bricks through clinic windows, yelling threats and insults at patients and staff, leaving bags of dog feces on the clinic doorstep, etc. Then, the clinic either gives up and moves away, leaving the town's addicted citizens without access to the most successful method of treatment--OR they persue it in court, the law upholds their right to stay, and....NOTHING HAPPENS. The evil, drooling, child snatching goons who must surely live under a bridge somewhere--not in OUR neighborhood (shudder)--never appear. Instead, they finally see that these are people just like themselves, trying to get well.
I taught a class to a group of new clinic patients in my area yesterday, and as I sat with them--a middle aged, middle class, well groomed married couple, a young, fit-looking crew cut man who was released from the service after being injured in duty and who developed a problem with painkillers and who is currently attending college, and two other clean cut young men--well dressed and polite--I mentioned to them how often I as a patient advocate deal with these Not In My BackYard situations and how the public fears them and pictures them as some monstrous threat--and they all just shook their heads in confusion. It was a sad moment.

I just wonder if Bob's Little Acre Author is from around here. I found the article very enlighting on the fact that not much has changed except the fact that she has replaced the "Little Girl" reporter. And said that the paper pretty much pushed and slanted the story. What?????? In Dade County???? NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!
Because I can't seem to forget this article...... Brock's On The Square To Sell Beer, "I Want To Be The First," Says Proprietor
