Just curious if anyone knows what is going on down at the 59/24 split. Wild fire? Controlled burn-off? I havent heard anything. I knew that there was another fire up in Tennessee this week. Thanks.

We have had TWO major forest fires this week alone. I will tell you that in a Commission Meeting this year, the Foresty Dept. while asking for more funding, made the comment that Dade County was the THIRD LEADING county in the whole state of Georgia for Forest Fires. We are known for ALOT of arson here in this area, but also for very little results in the investigations. I know that they had said there was a suspect on the earlier one this week, and that yesterday's is also considered suspicious.

For a little history on wild fire protection. Counties use to contract with the Dept. of Forestry for .04 cents an acre. That changed last year with the passage of HB 1055. That fee went up to 0.10 cents an acre. Senator Mullis voted in favor of this increase and Rep. Martin Scott voted against it. It is funny them coming and asking for more money when they have moved there office out of the county and are getting more than double the fee per acre. Here is a link I posted last year on the bill.

and here is Mullis's vote in favor.
