Another fine choice would have been Darell from the Rising Fawn Hardware store who actually worked for a number of years with the water company. I mean after all he's got more help with county business down there at the store ever day than most have up thar in Trenton...lol...lol... Like I said it was just another case of Ready, Fire, Aim process that Dade County is known best for. Made such a BIG DEAL about the Re-Structure of a Dept. but yet re-appoint the same folks and add someone with little if any knowledge (of the goings on of the water company) on the board. The better question than what would I want them to do would have been... What are they going to do with the problems with the Water Company? But hey, that just me the troublemaker who only wants to see Dade County get better and not look as if we don't really care but for a certain amount of it's residents.

From the Sentinel::3: Baptist minister Eddie Cantrell will replace incumbent Jakie Smith. Smith’s term had expired in April in any case, but Goff said he had not spoken to him about whether he desired reappointment.
Never even spoke to him? Sounds about right. Some Commissioners wanted the same ole while the other two were making a position for their circle. Such shame. Dade County is the loser again.

Angela was a little miffed at Jakie not even getting a call. Even if you were not going to re-appoint a call would have been nice. Did you catch where the Dr. was missing? I heard that they are having another meeting during the day I think today. If the Doc misses is that 2 meetings in a row? Or is that just a rule the will get selectively enforced if you are a good boy and agree with the majority on the board?

Have you not taught her my circle theory here in Dade County. First ask youself if the person (Angela) who is questioning the "Authority" if they are "From around Here"! Second is the person in question... "From Around Here" and the third and most important... Does the Authority know them as KIN, a Friend or do they go to THEIR CHURCH?

Did you hear "the Fluffer" this morning with the news that one board member who was re-appointed was NOT HAPPY with his PAY? You can tell that not much thought or talk went on between the commissioners and their picks for Board Members! But in Good-Ole-Boy style... Ted said he would look into it...lol...lol..lol...
Finances dominated Friday’s meeting of the Dade County Water Authority’s board of directors, with the first order of business an application to increase a low-interest GEFA (Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority) loan in order to complete three of the projects for which the loan was obtained last year. In a letter to GEFA, Authority Manager Doug Anderton explained that $200,000 more was required to complete a loop pipeline on Highway 11, pay Dade’s share of revamping the sewage system in the Flintstone subdivision atop Lookout Mountain, and replace a deteriorating galvanized line along Old Hooker Road. Ted Rumley, who as county executive also chairs the water board, agreed that the additional funds were vital. “All three of those items are in dire need,” he said. The board voted to approve the request. Authority employee Sherri Walker presented the monthly financial report, which showed a $27,000 loss for the month as well as a general tendency downward for the 12-month period. “It’s getting close to time to do something,” she said. But by “something,” it quickly emerged, she did not mean a rate increase. Anderton presented the case for refinancing the Authority’s bond issuance to reduce the utility’s debt burden. He explained that the move had been discussed last October. “Then the municipal bond market went south,” he said. Today, he said, rates were more favorable, and he expected them to improve further during the month or so it would take to prepare the paperwork for a bond refinance. “It’s a win/win for us if the market stays the same or gets better,” he said. Issuing bonds is essentially a way whereby government entities borrow against expected revenues. Anderton said the GEFA loan discussed above would be included in the refinanced total, and he said that a portion of that could be in “callable bonds,” shorter-term instruments that could be paid off when, as expected, Walker County purchases the miles of pipeline inside its borders but owned by Dade. He said that the Authority would probably wish to use the money it realized from the sale to reduce debt in order to offset the loss of income – at present, water customers in Walker County represent about 12 percent of the Dade utility’s base. Board members discussed the cost of the move, which Anderton told them was around $6 on the thousand including attorneys’ fees. He suggested they get the legal process for a bond refinance started. Then next month, he said, if the market is unfavorable they are under no obligation to act. But if fortune smiles, he concluded: “It puts us off from having to think about a rate increase for the immediate future.” The board agreed to ask the county attorney to begin the paperwork. It must vote again at a later meeting to approve or deny the refinancing move. Board member Dennis Watson asked Anderton if the Water Authority had had any additional cost as a result of April 27’s catastrophic tornados. Anderton cited about $3,000 in diesel fuel and said other costs were labor and generators. But he said that 75 percent of storm-related expenses would be paid by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and another 10 percent by the state. Anderton added that another cost that would emerge with time was water loss: In some cases, he said, tornados had ripped meters from the ground. “How many customers have we lost?” asked Watson. Sherri Walker replied that the Authority had had 105 cutoff orders and more were expected. In other business, Bobby Nolen, the board’s consulting engineer, reported satisfactory progress on ongoing GEFA projects. He said that at the newly installed Back Valley storage tank, trees had fallen on the fence in two places during the tornados. “Fortunately, there was no other damage there at the worksite,” he said. Nolen said the Back Valley tank is currently being filled and disinfected, and that that work should be wrapped up at some point this week. The water board’s next meeting is June 17.
It also looks like they are banking on the money from Walker buying those lines and taking over that sewer plant. We will discuss that a little later.
