Dade County Still Waiting on FEMA Assistance Check
By Shelby Coates Created Aug 13 2011 - 10:24pm Dade County officials say they would like to move forward with tornado recovery, but they need their federal assistance.
The County Chairman says he’s been calling the FEMA office for weeks, and Dade County still hasn't seen its Federal Disaster Assistance check.
The typical turn-around is about two to three weeks. But nearly three months later, the county is still waiting on nearly three million dollars in assistance.
For now, Dade County is borrowing money to fund recovery efforts.
This weekend, Chairman Ted Rumley says the money has been located, and he hopes to have it in house by Tuesday.
“We called daily for the past few weeks. And the money has actually been turned lose from the federal people in Washington,” said Rumley. “And it’s actually in Atlanta. Our money is actually disbursed through GEMA.”

As reported on this sight days after the tornado, FEMA, was not going to be all it was craked up to be. Now according to the Local "Fish Wrapper" FEMA is now going to tell us they are in charge and WE ( The Taxpayers of Dade County) will be responcible for all clean-up that FEMA feels is unworthy. When are we going to learn the Federal Goverment cannot be counted on fof the help needed. My Feelings is this tell the Federal Goverment to take a long hike on a very short pier and we will take care of the clean-up ourselves. Burn all that can be burned, salvage all that can be salvaged, and for those out there who had damage Insurance did not cover, do what I did just suffer the loss and start again.

Did the "Eagle" fly this week or is the county still on a "Snipe" hunt with FEMA/GEMA ( or some of those other all cap Goverment Agencies that are all talk and regulations)?

Well, from all that I have seen.... Seems to me that Daniels Tree Service done a fine job. Now that it's payday and the FEMA-GEMA money is coming to Dade County (let's hope) when is the "Other Money" that the County and City owes due? I think I understood Ted to say that the County owes about 280,000 and the City about 60,000. Neither is what I consider a LARGE AMOUNT in the past years (maybe a firetruck or two) (well one firetruck anyway) but in these hard times, it's gonna be tough to "Rake" that kind of money from the "Coffers"!

Well the check might not be in the mail. Looks like the money the right voting south may be held up because FEMA is running out of money and needs it for the left voting north for Irene help. http://www.wrcbtv.com/story/15352508/fe ... east-coast

FEMA diverts GA, TN tornado relief money to East Coast
Posted: Aug 29, 2011 1:32 PM EDT Updated: Aug 29, 2011 1:36 PM EDT By Associated Press
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Some federal money pledged to tornado-ravaged Tennessee and Georgia, among other disaster sites, is being diverted to help victims of Hurricane Irene.
Bob Josephson of the Federal Emergency Management Agency said Monday that FEMA's Disaster Relief Fund is running low.
He says individual aid to victims of the May 22 tornado that destroyed about one-third of Joplin, Missouri will continue, but money for long-term public repair and rebuilding projects will be used for immediate disaster relief on the East Coast.
Josephson says it will be up to Congress to restore funding to Joplin and other places hit by disasters earlier this year. Those areas include parts of Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee.
Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill tells The Associated Press she will work to ensure that Joplin gets the promised money.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is temporarily suspending some payments to rebuild roads, schools and other structures destroyed during spring tornadoes in Joplin, Mo., and Southern states and other recent natural disasters to pay for damage caused by Hurricane Irene............. ..................................... The decision affects projects tied to spring tornadoes and other disasters dating back several years and “prioritizes the immediate, urgent needs of survivors and states when preparing for or responding to a disaster,” said FEMA spokeswoman Rachel Racusen.
But If the county will pick up the batphone, according to the same article, The President will make it happen. So it may just take a call to the White house to get the check back in the mail.

Despite potential funding shortfalls, Obama said Sunday that the federal government would continue providing full assistance to affected states and cities.
“As I’ve told governors and mayors across the affected areas, if they need something, I want to know about it,” he said.

Well after all the "Great One" did leave his vacation early and make several media meetings while the latest storms were hitting the coast. It's hard to tell who the "Real" SUPERMAN is anymore. I mean the Country has Obama and this County has Mullis. Wow, it don't get no better than that!!!!!!!!!

I guess we are going to find out how important people from the South is in FEMA's book. As was said here before, FEMA, is not all it is cracked-up to be when it comes to dealing with a given problem. I think the South will learn the votes we have here is not as important as those votes in the Northen Part of the country. The voter base is not as great here as say, New York...Sooo when it comes to giving out aid guess who will suck air... The South... Becide we are "Old News" now. Sure hope we have a good line of credit at the local banks so we can pay for the clean-up.
