While I do love living here in this County (mainly being so close to Chatt.) I find it funny that Dade County never grows but our expences to run this County. Much like the school system that is outta control spending (look at their budget 10 to 20 years ago) compared to todays budget without any growth in population. Look at the Sheriff's budget and others just to see new growth only occurs in the goverment and not in population or revenue. But what does Dade County really have to offer? Sure it's a safe place to raise your kids but we really try to hide the fact we have the same problems as other places. We do have lower taxes but less to show for it. And most of all we have the least amount of LEADERSHIP than anywhere else I know because of the fact of the "Good Ole Boys System" wants to keep it that way. They have to control ever aspect that this county has to offer. It's sad to say that in 10 years this county has only added 1,479 folks and most are borned from the Good Ole Boys who are already in control and look at what they have to show for it... I have said many times that this County hasn't "Grown in 20 years" and this years number goes to show it. But then again that's what the Good ole Boys want... Full control with little if any growth... Now go back and pass "Another Ordinance" against something.....

This quote was taken from the Sentinel this week over the Three Counties that might un-cuff prisoners to get free medical attention. Look at the word usage by one of Dade Counties biggest leaders speaking of a mental issue patient.....
Ted Rumley, interviewed Friday, though reiterating that Dade does not “bump” prisoners at Hutcheson, said the other counties still do. “There was a guy there the other night, he was a fruitcake, and they went in there and turned him loose. They said, he’s not our prisoner,” he said.
Now what kinda of leader uses that term (fruitcake) speaking to the media on a issue. While it might be o.k. for someone to tell their spouse or kin that in passing, we need more schoolin and learnin on the word usage in public or to the media. But then again, we just might want to pass another ordinance to keep all the "Fruitcakes" out of Dade County. That would surly lower the population of this county!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lol..lol...

Mental Illness is not a respecter of persons; it affects rich and poor, intelligent or average, male or female, very young of very old or in-between. We have all seen it in people who may be family or friends. It is a serious condition and without proper treatment leads to serious problems either in the families affected or in Law Enforcement. The State of Georgia and the Federal Government in it hast to save money and privacy has made Mental Health Treatment harder to obtain. When we see people wondering the streets endlessly and staying in trouble with Law Enforcement all the time, is a measure how well our treatment system is working. I don’t want to “Put People Away” but sometimes it is necessary for their protection as well as that of Society. In no way do I condone the horrible Mental Intuitions of by-gone eras, because they were only holding pens not even fit for Cattle. However turning some people out under the pretense of them getting help in the communities with existing services is not happening at this time nor do I see it getting better in the future. Politicians somehow think that they are “Saving” Tax dollars by cutting Mental Health Facilities, are doing a disservice not only to the people affected, but to the communities we live in as well. We all know building Maglev trains is more important than Mental Health.

You can't have it both ways there Chef. Growth is an important part of your County. Growth means jobs, better leadership, and more conviences along with State Funding. Not just the "Good Ole Boys" getting their way all the time. While most people think "Growth" means population, it does not. Growth means being able to keep up with the rising cost of todays economy. This county has plenty of room for Growth in all aspects. While pretty veiws are wonderful. you can't find a job looking at pretty views. You can't bring in that much revenue by pretty views. You can however control growth and protect such things but that comes with the word Zoning and most folks don't like that either. Now I will have to admit that Growth in places has gotton out of Control, but without Growth this County will pretty much die on the vine. Which in my mind it already has, but then again, I love being on the North end and having it BOTH WAYS! We have a WAL-MART that this county never wanted. We have finer Resturants and use of Chatt. without the Growth that Dade County really needed years ago. I have said for years that we need "Leadership" that is educated enough to explain the importance of Growth and being able to look at things other than themselves and how if affects their world. At this time, Dade County is still NOT READY for that................... We have showed time and again the things that our leadership does that shoots this county in the foot with their Ready, Fire, Aim approach and another ten years has passed and we are still where we were 30 years ago. But I have to admit, we sure have some pretty GOVERMENT BUILDINGS!

According to this special section in the Times Free Press: http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2011 ... oganow2010 Trenton has a population of 2358 and grew 21.4 % since 2000. Maybe it's that population that is pushing for restaurant sales that the GOBers don't talk to?

Growth is a two edged sword if your population grows the demand for basic services increase (i.e. Schools, law enforcement and other county services,) the rise in population has a direct relationship to the amount of taxes needed to run the total county. On the other hand if you see a growth in industry the amount of needed to run the county stays the same or in some cases drop because the demand on the county are less in that industry does not use schools and in most cases limited demand on law enforcement and other count services because they provide them themselves. An ideal growth is both population growth in conjunction with industrial growth, in as much as one offsets the other. Our county has seen a lot of jobs go south here and none move in to fill the void. Until this happens we will see the tax rate rise if we keep adding population.
