I heard in a committee hearing today that after a certain percentage 50% of the tax has to go to the local government marketing agency. So if the chamber gets that money plus a business liscence money they should be swimming. Oh yeh there is a bill floating that says the counties have to report all local business lisences to the state so they can make sure they are collecting sales tax. That will be just the public excuse the board will use to say the state is making us do it. I say use the ole Dan Hall method, if the state wants it done let them come up here and do it. And I bet the law will be written just like the building permit law that it is not a mandate only if you are doing it.

But don't worry the state is contemplating bonding a bunch of your money to compete with our local cabin and campsite industry....
Read this link:
State Parks hope to get Sales Bond Boost

Quote:
Andy Fleming with the non-profit group Friends of Georgia State Parks says focusing on these amenities is the best way parks can attract more guests.

"Campsites...cabins...upgrading existing facilities so that the lodges as well as the cottages can compete with the private marketplace. They need to be refurbished every few years just as any other hospitality environment needs to be."

Read the story I didn't make this up, and if they (Cloudland Canyon State Park)doesn't have to pay the hotel motel tax, how is private company going to compete?

Funny how we can get money for parks but none for roads. I guess it sounds better when you are running for re-election that you got so much for a park instead of saying I got so much to fix a road. Go listen to the committee hearing I posted under state to hear the rest of the story. Keep listening because you will hear a good question about a list and no projects in our area.
But if you listen you will hear it is to prepare for stimulas 2. How can you consider yourself a conservative claiming to be agaist all the pork in DC and then sponsor laws that encourage the proccess? :?
