As our industrial board sat back and the rumor got out that a tier one would not go outside of Hamilton County. Dekalb got it done. We need to hire that guy. For all of those who said they wouldn't get one. i guess with a little effort and vision you can get more than a cosco. http://times-journal.com/story.lasso?ew ... YjP281AE5F

Announcement will mean jobs for DeKalb County By Andy Powell Times Staff Writer Gov. Bob Riley will be in Fort Payne Friday for an automotive-related industrial announcement, according to DeKalb County officials.
One source who asked not to be identified said the announcement would mean more than 200 jobs.
According to a press release from the DeKalb County Economic Development Authority, Riley will make the announcement at 2 p.m. at Fort Payne City Hall concerning a “foreign-based automotive Tier 1 supplier.”
The release said the firm will announce its choice of a site in Alabama.
A spokeswoman said confidentiality agreements prohibit the authority from saying if the announcement is related to the Volkswagen plant that will begin production later this year near Chattanooga, Tenn.
Gadsden officials in February announced that Fehrer Automotive, a Tier 2 supplier for Volkswagen, will be locating in the former Advance Automotive distributive center.
Fehrer will make automotive seat pads for Volkswagen’s new midsize sedan as well as for the Mercedes M- and GL-class vehicles that are made in Tuscaloosa.
The products will be shipped to Tuscaloosa and Chattanooga.
Fehrer was the state’s first Volkswagen supplier, said Mike McCain, executive director of the Gadsden-Etowah Industrial Development Authority.

Well it don't suprise me any. Things like this will be all over the news for the next few months about "Other" places seeing the jobs... Here in Dade County we will just be glad to call Jeff Mullis... "Our Friend"! It don't matter that he ain't doin nuthin but he's just so nice when he comes over the mountain and says all those neat things like the woman he married from Dade and his phone number being the "Birth of this Nation" 1776..... I just love-im to death.....

Shucks... Sen.Mullis had bigger fish to fry and did not have time to spend trying to get jobs for Dade County... You Know like going out to eat with whoever will pay for it so he don't have to... and don't forget the biggie that Mag-Lev Train from Chattanooga to Atlanta ( the reason for that is... He then want have to miss a free meal because it will put fine dining within an hour and half and he want have to wait).

Interesting that this company jumped right over NW Georgia to locate a plant in Fort Payne. Someone on the county commission should ask "maglev" Mullis why we didn't get a look. Maybe Dade County needs its own economic development. Oh wait, isn't that what the IDA is for? Never mind.

Well after all Mullis is alot like Dade County in that he is more concerned about who he is seen by eating at what resturant here in Dade County. Another "Feel Good" moment brought to you by the fine folks we have on Boards here in Dade County. This would be funny if it wasn't so true and didn't effect so many people for the pleasure of just a few......

Wreck I think the problem here is the land...To much rock and it cost to much to do site prep. Guess the Cosco Site did not have any of that nasty rock on it...NOT
Come on Guys get a Grip... rock is not an impedement to site development, look at the Wal-Mart Site in Tiftonia, Cosco site in Catoosa County, VW site in Chattanooga, Any building site around Nashville or any other place in the world that has rock all around. Once again... people are peeing on our pant leg and trying to convince us it is just raining...

Just goes to show the difference between where Dade County is... One Exit North of Chatt. to nowhere (Until VW) and an exit North of Ft. Payne to nowhere (until VW) and Dade County right smack in the middle with nothing to go nowhere... Makes perfect sense to me!

Well it will be announced tonight that Dade COunty has now been listed a Tier One County. That's kinda great news in itself other than if they don't want the Shaw Building or the one Lot left in the Park, where will we put them? Oh well, Thanks to those who at least seen the need to get the status changed on the Tier's and maybe someday we will see some jobs that ain't either from the County or the City..... Good Ole Boys Jobs that is.....

Oh now more is coming out on the status... Seems we are ONLY Tier one on Hwy 11. I admit that anything would help but not sure that this will help that much. How far off Hwy 11 does the status carry? I don't see another "Beauty Shop" or another "Used Underwear" store being able to employ 5 or more employees....

Tier 1 refers to how Dade qualifies for some money from state and federal pots of money they forced someone else to pay. It has nothing to do with economic development I don't believe.
