At the December County Commission meeting, the commissioner's set forth a requirement for the Chamber of Commerce to report how many companies they had "courted" to come to Dade County. This for $7,500 for 6 months.

How about let's have some accountability for the IDA. One million and we haven't had an appearence from them since, was it Feb or March '09.

I approached every commissioner about this issue. I was told I was preaching to the choir and they were working on it.

IDA needs a new chairman.

Let's see what happens. January 2010 meeting is just around the corner.

Are the members of the IDA elected or appointed?

I too spoke to commissioners and heard the same thing. Seems funny to me that people are asking but no one is answering the questions. The members are appointed by commissioners with the recommendation of the Board. We really need qualified people to have vision of getting something done for all Dade County residents instead of worring about how to make money off of the deals. I still can't believe that Dade County has nothing better to offer in Board Members than the ones we have now. I would get rid of the whole board and start over. There is only one board member that I feel could be reappointed to this board. But the commission tells me that they can't do that, it is up to the taxpayers to demand accoutability. Well I'm DEMANDING!

Correct me if I am wrong on this one... I understand the stipulations to fund the CoC for 6 months was to court KFC to build an outlet her in the lovely State of Dade. Lets see noe that would give 15 to 20 minumum wage jobs and then we coul "Smell" frying chicken all over Trenton. I really don't want to smell frying chicken when I go to Trenton. I guess the "Smell" fo chicken frying at minumum wage trumps the "Smell" for highet paying jobs at a paper mill.

You think if the CoC was able to get a Chick-fil-A they would get funding no questions ask????

Heh, heh...
Everyone wants to eat chicken but it should be grown under someone else's nose!!!
That is the WHOLE national economic problem in a nut shell -- how do you grow a prosperous economy when most of your earned income is going overseas? Where do WE make money on in the GLOBAL market place? Computer engineering jobs are outsourced to India. Find something you NEED at Walmart/Kmart/etc.... that is not from China -- there is some but very little. You may find stuff 'assembled' in the USA but very little is MADE in the USA. If Dade wants to boost its economy it is going to have to have MAKE something here that is WANTED elsewhere. If you want shinny fire trucks (I think I saw all of them Saturday parked next to the 'Italian' Restaurant), fancy new 'civic centers' and all that, that implies then you need to stop expecting the homeowners to foot the bill.

If you want shinny fire trucks (I think I saw all of them Saturday parked next to the 'Italian' Restaurant),.... Not ALL of them, just the City's. If you had all of them, they would be lined down the street. I will say though on their behalf that they were more than likely out giving of their time to make sure some of the not so lucky kids have a Christmas. I will stand up and say that they do a WONDERFUL Job when it comes to making sure that the kids have a Christmas, but don't forget those who also give of their time and money.

Now the rest of the post is right on track. It's what I have said all along about needing to stop expecting the homeowners and taxpayers to foot the bill for "New Toys" to play with....

Oh, I meant no slight with my comment -- actually got a kick out of all those trucks parked there. My kiddos had never seen a yellow truck before and talked about it all weekend! I bet they have had a lot more 'needy' children this year too, with the down turned economy as it is there just isn't much left after taken care of the bills. I also think that we live in a very unique diverse geographical region 'fire fighting' here I am sure can be more difficult due to that. I tell you I was amazed when the forester told me he drove his rig up Sulpher Springs! but that is the fastest route on our end of the county/mountain.

I just didn't want you to get in trouble with the Fireman like I have. You know you can't say anything about the Firetrucks unless it's all good, so I am trying to be nice during this holiday season...lol...lol... Now tell the kiddos that was the Davis Fire Dept. with the Yellow Trucks and remember that New Home has White Trucks. If they want to see ALOT of Firetrucks have them at next year's Christmas Parade. They had a Great Turnout this year (I counted at least seven from Trenton and I think all the Depts. Had a least one or more).

Well we will definitely be there next year. The folks at our church talked it up so big that I cant get out of letting participate next year. It is just kinda late for us! We're just the early to be early to rise type.
