I'm going to start a new business in Dade County. We're going to offer antiquated services with high prices but you'll have no other companies to choose from because we'll attempt to quash competition before it starts rather than improving our offerings. We're going to charge you 1.50 cents a month for a new fandangled technology called "Touch Tone" and 5.75 for Caller ID. We can do this because we have no competition! We'll also charge you outrageous prices on slow and unreliable DSL just because we know that you can't get anything else that's better right now. We think that 59.95 for an internet connection that's 10 times slower than cable's internet at the same price is a great deal. But don't worry! We'll claim that we're working on hooking into EPB's fiber network even though we probably think that fiber is something akin to cotton. We'll say how hard we're working on it like it's some ongoing project even though the plans were finished over a year ago and we thought that it was too expensive to invest in. We'll claim we want to see Dade County grow commercially, but fail to offer telecom services that are even halfway adequate for business requirements. We'll continue to sue the cable company so that they can't offer phone services in the county or everyone might switch over. After all, who in the world came up with the idea of value added services anyway? Claiming to be a technological giant and a boon to the community while we ask you to grab your ankles at least once a month is what we'll do best. We'll call ourselves Trenton Telephone Company. Enjoy your 70's/80's era phone services and data services that were available 15 years ago.

Hey look at it this way... We are one step above having to say... "Sarah, this is the Sheriff, get me one bullet Barney... Yea Aunt Bea is fine, Thanks for askin"!!!!!!!!!!lol...lol...lol...lol... No competition in this town is why it is like it is. You'll either like it or lump it... Or buy them out for alot more than it would be worth.... I thought you were gonna open up another "Skent Drawer Store!" We got all them we need!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This whole situation infuriates me. Here we have a county made up of people who mostly have budgets that don't allow for much give, yet just for the basics they charge an arm and a leg. I can be mad because my internet service gets slower and slower and my bill gets higher and higher and the only other option is satellite (which tends to be a big jump not only technologically, but also financially). Why is this one business allowed to have a monopoly in this town? At the very least we have two of nearly everything else - not much in the way of competition, but at least there IS competition. Meanwhile, my in-laws in Rossville pay a half to a third of what we do for both phone and television services, have several "bundling" options from different companies, and get way better prices without a huge ordeal for installation and change-over. Also, can someone explain to me why the fee to change a name on the water/sewer bill is so much? It is ridiculous! Everywhere else we have changed the name from my parents to ours for free, since we took over their home when they moved. All they have to do is type it into the computer!!!!

If you want to see how good a Dade County business can be just meet me at "Our Local Wal-Mart". I ran into (happens alot) to someone who I worked with while on the Chamber Board. They made the comment that they haven't seen me alot in Trenton lately. I just said that I don't get that way much anymore and they made the comment that "Yea it's kinda of depressing to even try to shop down there".... Believe me folks, I tried and still shop with certain business down there but there isn't much of a reason to even try anymore. I have all I need up North and the taxes will rise anyway because we just don't get what a business plan really is.

As far as the business ya'll are speaking of, just remember that "Cell Phones" are fast becoming the "Only" phone that some will have. They may have to look at the internet thing alot more in the future or just close the doors because there isn't any profit in land lines anymore... And we already know that this business don't have to spend money to make money so that will leave them "Retiring"....

If I had good 3G coverage, I would drop my land line in a heartbeat and just use cell phones for everything.

Most people are now doing that very thing. The old lines hanging from the pole days is about over. In Trenton it really looks bad but some of those lines haven't been used in years. They just don't want to take them down. That would cost to much money. Oh wait! The streetscape project might pay that bill... I would hold the Phone Company to doing it for the better of the Community, but I learned along time aga, that was just a CRAZY IDEA that I had, that these people want to HELP the community but then I learned they just want the money from it.... The Good-Ole-Boys, what's in it for me deal.....It's just plain sad...........

Oh NO not the Wal-Mart, we are gonna keep them outa Dade County.... Oh wait we have kept out the tax money ... Maybe we can stop this too. Oh wait, where else in Dade County can you get a cell phone?

But of course the way we look at it is that since we don't have a cell phone store we won't have any car accidents with people using them... Kinda like liquor by the drink....He he Ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!
