SMYRNA, GA – The Georgia Food Industry Association (GFIA) announced today that 97 cities and counties throughout Georgia are set to hold Sunday sales referendums during the November 8, 2011 general election. These areas represent approximately 2.5 million Georgians living in all parts of the state.
“We would like to commend the city and county leaders throughout the state who have decided to give the people the right to choose what is best for their communities,” said GFIA President Kathy Kuzava. “This effort has always been about our industry’s desire to serve our customers. If the referendums are successful our customers are ones who will benefit.”
In April, Governor Nathan Deal signed Senator John Bulloch’s (R-Ochlocknee) Senate Bill 10 which allows cities and counties to vote on Sunday retail alcohol sales.....
It this time when we can drive 15 minutes to Tennessee or go get a drink in Chattanooga and drive just to the South along I-59 to FT. Payne it is silly we don't allow it. Both the County and the City has had to borrow money and is trying to find more revenue sources. This would require a vote of the people. I am sure it would fail but, the commissioners could then claim they have tried everything before raising taxes. They don't have to say they are for it or again it but, they are just putting it out for the voters to decide. I bet they don't even have the Cojones to bring it up. But are they not failing the voters by not having a vote and at least allowing the voters to decide. There are only few things that the GA Legislature allows the voters to decide on and by not allowing us the vote are they not denying us a right?
See the above link for a map that shows where all over they are voting for.

Well after seeing all the drunks passed out in the Pizza Hut parking lot, I can understand why they wouldn't want the citizens to vote and you know those in elected office are so much smarter than everyone else.

Quote: Rev. Aaron Messner, who lives on the Georgia side of the mountain and is chaplain at Covenant College, said that, for Christians, the vote would depend on each person's understanding of the Sabbath. Some, he said, "would not feel comfortable buying anything on Sunday, much less alcohol" because that requires people to work on the Lord's Day.
That would include people working on anything but serving them the "Fried Chicken" they require because they don't want to work (cook) themselves... I'm sure though I have never seen where it says that Sunday is a day of rest for everone but those who serve us the food..............................The only thing this county will vote for on "Sunday Sales" is MORE FRIED CHICKEN!
On one hand folks will say that the City should have been able to vote on Resturant Sales but won't even mention letting us voting on Sunday sales.
I have heard that some think that the County folks made the decision on Resturant sales and that is should have only been up to the City voters. Here is why I disagree.... First of all, most of all sales tax comes from the City where the business is located, and most folks who shop there are not just from the City. Another words is why keep business out of the City when you want folks to come into that City to shop? If you have a resturant that serves then your customers have to come from both the County and other places to help keep it in business. Now I never claim to be the best business owner of Trenton (lasted only two+years) but I am sure that my customers came from other places besides the City.
The thing that most folks forget is that City folks are DADE COUNTY residents and they are the one and the same.
I would like to comment that I'm glad there is no ban on Sunday sales of a Grill. I found that mine had quit working Sunday and I was able to run up to my Wal-mart and purchase another one in time to Grill some steaks... Oh, but that was in another State and County wasn't it?? Oh well!!!!!!!
