I heard an accident ealier. But don't fear GDOT will be out after it turns midnight because that is on next week pay week. You can read about it down here.

GDOT will be out working the roads after midnight

Just got off the phone calling our Senator about cleaning roadways in Dade County. We have 2 trucks, one of them broke down and no response from the Supervisor because he is on Furlow. They are trying to get someone out of Cartersville to come up and help. Such a shame that the taxpayers of Dade County have to hear that there is no help for them. I suggest that you to call Mr. Mullis and tell him the same thing.. You can reach him at (706) 375-1776. The interstates are shut down and waiting for help. Maybe Evan will have him on the radio to explain to us how he is gonna save us with the high speed rail... What a JOKE!

Well it took Richard over 2 hours to get from the 2nd curve up 136 to home -- what on a normal day would have taken about 20 minutes. The biggest issue was the salt truck was sliding trying to get up the mountain. It just seems that they should have 'salted' earlier. There was also a bus that had to be towed.

Well on the link above I added a post telling the history of gdot with links to different articles and bills filed. Apparently I am still awaiting moderation. I don't think it is censorship because they are generally like this board on allowing post. I can't believe you got someone Rex. That is great. Maybe some of the watching is doing some good.

Oh David, I think you mis-understood... I said Call not TALKED! Called several numbers and HAD to LEAVE a Message. I did call two of the commissioners (One a person friend of Mr. Millis) and told them of what was going on. One answered and the other I had to leave a message with them. You should have had a scanner yesterday to listen to how prepared this county and State was for this weather... The County I would grade a "C" and the State an "F".. The Sheriff's Dept could have had more people on call because Jackie Womack
worked his butt off for this county... It is just a good thing that the temp has warmed up enough to take care of what the State Failed to do...

You can expect some delays with the mountains and the temp differance but last night was a Joke trying to get people and supplies to Dade County to HELP with the roads. The County roads crews had their hands full but were doing all they could but the State was playing POLITICS... Do us a favor Mr. Mullis and take another Furlough Day off a month so that we may have safer roads to travel...lol...lol...

Well looks like my post on the link above is finally up. I just got back from the hardware store and the roads seemed fine. I do hear it might freeze tonight. The roads being thawed now may give people too much confidence when they freeze over tonight.

Ha,ha,ha! The road conditions and response to the weather was a joke. Do you know they actually held a "weather briefing" on how things would be handled the day before and then scheduled another for one o'clock the same day the weather hit? At one it was just a weeeeeee bit too late.(sarcasm intended) We barely made it up Sand Mountain at noon and the buses were just leaving Davis (you know, last stop when picking kids up from school). Absolute Craziness!!! What was funny was watching the Ingle's parking lot go from empty to packed in about ten minutes flat..."Quick, get everything they have because we might starve before tomorrow afternoon or Sunday!" Of course I do realize that since it was a Friday, a lot of people had just been paid and needed to get groceries anyway, it just cracks me up how so many people wait until the last possible minute to prepare for the weather - and that includes our county and school officials.
